Who has decided to enter the NFBC and where?

Post by Dyv » Wed Jan 28, 2004 3:10 pm

I hear ya, I usually don't play fantasy games for less than $500,000.

Btw, who is your staff? I'm sure I should know who you are or something - but outside of Michael Douglas in Wall Street, I don't know any Gekkos.

You're not that Geico lizard are you?

He has a staff... hmmm... you have a staff...

Interesting...

Gordon, It's all good fun. You can certainly talk the talk and we'll see if you can walk the walk come next October.

Oh, I think Dyv has a staff too. In fact he's bringing a few of them to Vegas with him. You can't miss them, they'll be the guys wearing the Leaderboard Sports shirts and hats similar to the one last years champ is wearing in the picture on the WCOFB site. You might have to look around some but I bet you'll be able to find a couple Leaderboard Sports guys out there. ;)

When the Bulls won all of their championships, they never really played anybody, never a top team at the top of their game...the Bulls dominated a dead era of basketball. But they still have the championships

Myself, I count on having every player I draft injured and out for the season by May 1st...that way if I have any healthy players on May 2nd it's been a successful campaign. I don't like to jinx it...and I know I'll jinx my season if I talk about my potential upcoming success, better to keep it minimal and avoid the jinx.......so here's to having at least one healthy player on May 2nd

Nice smack talk, the only problem I see is that your staff does your work. I guess a smart manager knows when he isn't smart enough to do his own work.

So Lizard..errr Gekko, how much money have you won playing fantasy baseball? I would guess alot in leagues nobody has heard of. I guess we'll see how things shape up in April.

Okay, I'm happy to report the names of the six people who signed up for the NFBC on Wednesday. Let's welcome to the growing NFBC family:

1) Lance and Herb Goebel, who are doing the NFBC/WCOFB doubleheader in Las Vegas.

2) Henry Cantrell of North Carolina drafting in the NFBC in Las Vegas.

3) Defending WCOFB champion Hojin Kyung of San Diego drafting an NFBC team in Las Vegas.

4) Todd Zola of Mastersball.com signing up for the AL-only Auction League in Las Vegas. Todd is down here in Houston cheering on his beloved New England Patriots and buying me beers!!!

5) Leonello Savo of New Jersey signing up to compete in the NFBC in New York.

6) Brett Washburn of Georgia flying to Chicago to compete in the NFBC.

Welcome to all of you and I'll e-mail each of you individually when I return from Houston. We have a few earlybird giveaways left, so let me know what you want via e-mail and I'll ship those out to you. We have now had 15 signups over the last three days, so don't delay in signing up. Spots in each city are limited.

So Lizard..errr Gekko, how much money have you won playing fantasy baseball? I would guess alot in leagues nobody has heard of. I guess we'll see how things shape up in April. I “delegate” work. I'll use it in a sentence for clarification: When I’m busy closing deals, I “delegate” the research work to my staff.

This will be my second year playing fantasy baseball. Here’s my resume from last year:

League 1 (12 teams) – I won the championship, but 10 of the teams were managed by 8th graders.

League 2 (14 teams) – I came in third. All of the teams were managed by relatives (including nephews and wives).

League 3 (12 teams) – This was a Yahoo league. I came in 7th.

League 4 (12 teams) – ESPN league. Don’t know where I finished. I forgot my username and password.

League 5 (10 teams) – This was a league comprised of “people” I see at work. There was a water delivery guy, the UPS guy, FED Ex guy, mailroom guy, etc… Needless to say, I came in 8th.

Now you can see why I display confidence in my posts.

Gekko - wow, that's an impressive resume there.

I don't think you'll find any 14 year olds, 1st cousins, courier guys, etc. in the NFBC. This is a whole different ball game. And I thought you only played in big money leagues?

Let me reiterate - we would love to have you in our league.

Hey Liz,

I have to admit, that was a classic. No matter what happens or what you say, you will always have the "one" post.

I don't call an 7th, 8th and a 3rd place finish an impressive standing. But i guess i am just not used to finishing that low in the standings. Can't wait to see you in Vegas where you have to deal with guys who know a little more than your average Joe.

Hoosier Hicks are managed and co-managed by two United states Postal Carriers. We take offense to the courier remark. I have all your names so when I go POSTAL I'll know who to look for.

PS Greg, there won't be security or metal detecters at the chicago draft will there?

The excitement and competitiveness are building fast. GL Everyone

My people did some research and told me to draft Rey Ordonez in the second round.

PS The above post was submitted by the secretary for Hoosier Hicks, as he was in a meeting with all his fantasy researchers.

PSS DYV is a genius ;)

Well, well - flattery! You're just softening me up in case we get in the same league. It might just work...

Perry Van Hook has signed up today for the real NFBC doubleheader, competing in the Auction League on Friday night and the NFBC draft in Las Vegas on Saturday. Thanks for supporting both NFBC events, Perry. I've lost to Perry at least once in Auction Leagues and will compete against him in another league this year, so best of luck everyone. Just get ready to pay for A-Rod!! Trust me on that one.

Hi,

Officially registered for NYC draft today. As mentioned earlier in this thread, Scott Monroe and I will be representing BBHQ. Looking forward to a great experience!

I'm registered for the AL auction and the Saturday draft in Vegas. My Wise Guy buddy is going to play the NL. Got hammered in the WCOFB last year, out of it by the end of May. We still think we drafted a good team, which I suppose makes us chumps for this year too.

Just got back from Houston where there was a great football game that was overshadowed by Janet and Justin. What was up with that? Anyway, I'm glad to report that we received five signups on Super Bowl Sunday, which tells me that some guys either had good success on the big game or the thought of one sport ending and another one starting got a few folks to poney up. Glad to see that Gene McCaffrey and John Menna will be joining us in Lost Wages. I'll list all the latest signups tomorrow as the NFBC rolls near the start of spring training. Less than two weeks until pitchers and catchers report. I can't wait.

McCaffrey and Menna - sound like a couple of Wiseguys if you ask me! Just keep them away from my leagues. Welcome aboard Gene & John.

Who is this Sack guy anyway? Seems to me he's a pushover. Just bring donuts or a racing form to the draft and he'll be distracted for the rest of the afternoon. :)

Okay, okay, I'm back from a damn football event and ready for eight months of nothing but baseball. Are you ready for some BASEBALL?

Before talking baseball, it's time to welcome our latest members of the growing NFBC family. The latest signups, who are too shy to venture onto these Message Boards, include:

1) Ray Murphy and Scott Monroe of BaseballHQ.com, drafting in the NFBC in New York.

2) Neil Das Gupta, participating in the NL-only Auction in Chicago.

3) Raymond Freer, a Las Vegas native who will hold home field advantage in the NFBC Las Vegas draft.

4) Dale Donmoyer, participating in the NL-only Auction League in Chicago.

5) David Zwickel of New York City, who will be participating in the NL-only Auction League in New York.

6) Scott Renda, who will be drafting in the NFBC New York draft.

7) Jason Krieger of Oklahoma, who is flying to Las Vegas to participate in the NFBC.

8) And Gene McCaffrey, who will be in Las Vegas for the NFBC draft with co-manager John Menna and going solo in the AL-only Auction League. These Wise Guys deserve a little ribbing, so let the fun begin.

Again, I extend a special welcome to all of you as the last week produced our highest total of signups thus far. We're on a roll and pitchers and catchers haven't even reported yet. Keep 'em coming as there's still room in all three cities.

Hey Mi C, that racing form and doughnuts are a given. What are we going to do with that mug shot adorning the "hot" sheet? That is the problem.
