Team Stuff

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Mon Apr 23, 2018 1:41 pm

The Cincinnati Reds have scored seven runs in their last five games. Losing them all.
They've scored more than seven runs once.
They've allowed at least 13 runs in three games.
They have not beat a team outside of their own division.
They have three Wins, one new Manager, and one new pitching coach.
That all adds up to a long, losing season.

Guess which team has run more than any other in baseball?
Led by Trea Turner and Michael A Taylor (do his friends call him Michael A ?), the Nationals have attempted 30 stolen bases.
While the running has pleased fantasy owners, running and a hot Adam Eaton (hurt) and a hot Bryce Harper haven't been enough to give the Nationals a winning record, 10-12.

The Angels are going to win and lose a lot of high scoring games this year.
The Angels have played 22 games, the winning team has scored five runs or more in 18 of those games.
The Angels lead baseball in homers with 32 homers in those 22 games.
They've also given up the most homers, 34.
AND, they have the only player who figures deeply in both of those figures, Shohei Ohtani.

Has the humidor made Arizona a triples park.
The Diamondbacks lead baseball with nine triples.
Seven of them at home.
However, they only have nine homers at home. 12 on the road.
Paul Goldschmidt has yet to hit a home homer or HOMEr.

Some say that Cincinnati is the best place to hit home runs.
The Reds have 11 homers this year.
No team has hit less.
Oh wait though, their staff has allowed 33 homers, second most in baseball.

The Red Sox are AVERAGING six runs a game.
It's a good time to own any of their starting pitchers with that support.
Not they've needed it.
The Red Sox are giving up less than three runs per game.
No shock that the Red Sox have the best record in baseball.
Boston has won more games than the Twins have PLAYED.

Gabe Kapler was rocked after his first week as Manager.
The Phillies are now 14-7.
There hasn't been much talk about Kapler lately.

Atlanta has 12 Wins and one Save.
Seattle has nine Wins and eight Saves.
Saves cannot be projected well.

Houston, Boston, and Cleveland have 50 quality starts in 63 games.
Close to 80% of their Starts, quality.

The Diamondbacks and Dodgers are so nice.
Their pitchers have only hit two batters this year.

The old adage about bad teams issuing intentional walks a good deal and good teams treating intentional walks as a bad deal rings true this year....
Miami, Milwaukee, and Cincinnati have already issued 10 or more intentional walks.
The Red Sox, zero.

Every team in baseball is averaging seven strike outs per game or more.
Every team.
Six teams are averaging over 10 strike outs per game.
Strike outs will break another record this year.
This will be the 11th straight year a new strike out record will be had.
Teams averaged 3 strikeouts per game when the Yankees' Murderer's Row ruled baseball in 1927. The average didn't top 4 until 1952, 5 until 1959 and 6 until 1994. It passed 7 in 2010 and 8 last year.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Speaking of Reds gopherballers, anybody else giving Luis Castillo a seat this week? Velocity is down and command is shaky.
