Adalberto Mondesi had 14 homers and 32 stolen bases in 275 at bats in 2018
Trea Turner had 13 homers and 33 stolen bases in 303 at bats in 2016
Turner has been a first round pick ever since his little explosion
Mondesi taken in the second round of the PreMature
The drafter of Mondesi, highly criticized for drafting Mondesi at the bottom of the second round in the PreMature League.
Why? I don't know.
Turner has had two years of proof that he is 'not that guy'.
Still, taken in the first round in the PreMature League.
Not a peep.
I don't get our hobby sometimes.
In the Minor Leagues, neither Turner, nor Mondesi had any seasons of over 13 homers or 30 stolen bases
Just sayin'.....
Billy Hamilton had 122 at bats from the leadoff spot in 2018...
He stole one base from that spot
At home, Hamilton was a pretty good hitter, batting .261...On the road .213
That makes me scratch my head...
Because Hamilton stole only nine bases at home, 25 on the road
Dee Gordon walked nine times the whole season
Nine
Gordon stole just 30 bases and was caught 12 times...
Our three year old daughter had a better caught stealing rate with the cookie jar
Gordon had 60 stolen bases in 2017...30 in 2018
Likened to over drafting speed over a short period of time (Turner and Mondesi)...
We are also forgiving in downtrends of speedsters...
Gordon and Hamilton were selected in the sixth and 10th rounds of the PreMature Draft
It's very hard to find fault with a batter who has a 30-30 year
Jose Ramirez had a .270/110/39/105/34 season
We dream about those seasons
Still, Ramirez left a bad taste in owners mouths...
On August 19, Ramirez was hitting .300 and cruising towards a possible MVP
He lost 30 points of batting average, MVP thoughts, and his owners confidence by the end of the season
For 2019 drafters, the downward trend near the end of the season (he also went 0-11 in the playoffs) may bring him down a tick
BUT, when realizing that he'll get to face KC, CWS, DET, and Min staffs another year, it will be forgiven
29 of Ramirez 39 homers were against BAL, CIN, CWS, KC, NYY, DET, and Min staffs
We love cripple shooters...
Seriously, Dee Gordon had nine walks. Votto Up, Man!
Dan Straily walked eight times !
And a caution to you Mondesi lovers....
Mondesi only walked 11 times
I want my hitters, hitting. I want my speedsters, walking. Just a rule I have....
Votto (I can't resist) walked 108 times last year
SABRS applaud
Votto scored 67 Runs. Same as Jason Heyward.

Continuation on post, since these Message Boards wouldn't allow this long of a post,
Analysis.....
Votto can walk all he wants, but he ain't worth chit if he ain't hitting
Billy Hamilton with his crappy 34 walks and crappier .236 batting average with most at bats coming from the 9-hole, scored more Runs than Votto
The second leading RBI leader among Catcher eligibles in 2018, will probably be out of baseball in 2019
Even Gattis had 78 RBI in 2018
With no position to play and DH roles changing, this may have been El Oso Blanco's swan song.....
Like Starting Pitchers, we are seeing Catchers lights fade
Only one Catcher (Sal Perez) had 500 at bats last year.
Only nine Catchers had even 400 at bats (I'm not counting Gattis)
Six of those nine Catchers hit below .250 (seven of 10 if insisting on counting Gattis)
In the future, Catchers may help us more by being out of the lineup, than in.
Ian Desmond just finished his fifth 20-20 in his last seven seasons
Paul Goldschmidt stole seven bases in 2018
During the last three years, Goldschmidt's opportunism has waned
32 in 2016. 18 in 2017, 7 in 2018
Close to my intercourse numbers over the same time period
Believe me, it is not a good trend

Re: Some Hitting Stuff
Great stuff, Dough. However, you also left out one little detail about your intercourse numbers being comparable to Goldschmidt's 7 steals in all of 2018. Not only was that 7 bad for you, you neglected to say that it was in about 30 attempts.
The statistics don't lie. With numbers like these in baseball, they don't even let you try it anymore.
