You'll want to take note of the Nascar race, as well. Not sure that has been announced either, but it is a very busy weekend, as well.

Guys, as Q has shown this is a once in a decade occurrence with Easter being so early. We may just have to bite the bullet and not do it during the first weekend of March Madness. The fact that the Final Four is a week later next year adds to the problem. I know it's not ideal, but it looks like the 15th or the 29th are the only options.

The 15th creates the same timetable before the season as years past. There's also plenty of fun in Las Vegas that weekend, but dealing with ConExpo is a MAJOR pain (the third unreal occurrence for us at one time). As much as UFS thinks the 29th is possible, I see MAJOR problems trying to do that. And then what are we really solving, just allowing us all the chance to see the Sweet Sixteen games?? I'm not sure that was the original goal. The original goal was to take advantage of some trips our regulars already make to Las Vegas and adding our draft to it. Now some folks will have to make some tough decisions about entering the NFBC next year.

This is a one-year hit and we'll just have to bite the bullet. Thanks Q for showing me the 2008 calendar before we signed any contracts. We'll keep seeking input and planning 2008 a year in advance. What a bummer, but what can you do?

Someone who is a gearhead, please find out when NASCAR returns to Las Vegas in 2008. I need to know that. If NASCAR is in Las Vegas the same weekend as ConExpo, then the 29th will get a serious look. Wow, please don't do that to us!!

Hardly a "gearhead", but since I live in Virginia I am surrounded by them at work!

Anyhow, I got this off of one of the Nascar sites;

"2008 Las Vegas NASCAR Packages Will Be Posted As Soon As NASCAR Announces The Race Dates."

So in other words, someone as big as Nascar has yet to decide dates for 2008!

That makes ZERO sense to me.

Here were the Nasar dates for Las Vegas from previous years if it means anything?

2007 - 3/11

2006 - 3/12

2005 - 3/13

2004 - 3/7

2003 - 3/3

The Las Vegas Speedway has something about NASCAR returning on March 10th. That would help a bit.

Okay, if you had a choice between the 15th and the 29th of March, which one would you choose? Just realize that on the 29th we wouldn't have all rosters inputted before Opening Day and you'd have to set your Week 1 lineup after the draft.

March 15th??

March 29th??

Nascar, Here is how it works. They'll have thier last race in Las Vegas prior to Easter weekend.

They never race on Easter weekend. Its a two week break than they start again after the break in Atlanta. Most of the drivers live near there so it makes sense. That makes the 29th the best draft date??

Between the 15th and the 29th, I choose the 29th.

I'm already off, from March 22nd-March 30th, so the 29th could even open the Vegas option for me. :D

I'm a VERY small minority here though (the possible player who has yet to play in the Main Event).

Unconfirmed, but it looks like the UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400 is going to be held the weekend of March 8th.

March 29th, no FAAB 1st week. Seems so simple that it must not be.

My preference would be for the 29th. We could make the roster entry work -- you'd just need to use good people to do it.

That's a very real possibility if we hold the draft on the 29th. To use this year as an example we're hoping to have all of the leagues entered today; that's five days after the event. So that would be 5-6 days of games that you guys wouldn't be able to follow for your teams. Would you all be cool with that?

Waiting until the last minute to draft is what most people like. I could wait a week to see the standings. You still have an idea how your players are doing by the news. So yes drafting at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on the 29th of March 2008 works. :D

I am also ok not seeing my first week stats. The only thing I worry about would be the Friday DL moves and then FA bids at the end of week #1.

March 29th?? why are most of us even in the NFBC? Mainly because we were introduced to fantasy baseball through our local leagues. Of which many of us still play. Since Easter is 22/23 the 29/30 will be huge for the local leagues. I KNOW the NFBC is a great event and worth every penny. But to a new entrant given the choice between the two I'm sure they'd stick to the league they've been in for years. That's a downside I can see to Mar 29.

The 29th can work but the only thing I'm thinking about is that if you don't set your line up after week 1 should week 1 stats count? Something tells me they shouldn't but not sure?

[/QUOTE]It looks like we can agree to one thing: EVERY weekend in March of 2008 has a negative to it. We'll start calling Las Vegas hotels now with the 15th and the 29th in mind and see what happens. ConExpo makes the 15th tough in Las Vegas, I can tell you that, so we'll see what happens. Stay tuned.

I think March 29th is totally feasible. Everyone has to check their roster and initial after the draft anyway just have us also select our week 1 starting roster then too. No FAAB needs to be done since we just drafted so that can wait a week. The rosters also don't NEED to be loaded before the first game. So what if they're loaded a day or two after the first game is played as long as the player stats and scores show up once the rosters are loaded. IMO that's the best option.

I vote for March 15th. Setting my lineup immediately after the draft does not provide me with the flexibility to change it due to an injury that may have happened during the draft that I was not aware of.
