Wednesday Night's High Stakes Fantasy Advantage Show

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Sun Mar 15, 2020 11:54 am

We still have our High Stakes Fantasy Advantage Show on SiriuxXM Fantasy Sports Radio this Wednesday between 10 pm and midnight ET, and for the life of me I have no idea what we are going to talk about for 2 hours.

I have no desire to talk about draft results, or auction values or even the Tout Wars results that took place this weekend Online (why did they go forward with those auctions?). I know we still have current draft results and I applaud everyone who just wants to draft to cure this boredom of all of us being kept at home, but I personally can't talk about baseball right now.

And when it rains it pours, so Darik and I will be hosting the show because Tom was called directly home yesterday to deal with a personal problem. Keep Tom in your thoughts this week as he's dealing with a major family issue. :(

Here's my thought: If I have to fill up two hours of radio then I want to use that time to have a family group therapy session. I want to include the NFBC community and get all of your thoughts on how you're dealing with coronavirus, how it's affected your personal lives, how it's affecting your love of fantasy baseball, how you missed meeting with your peers at live events, etc. I just don't think the rest of the fantasy community understands how IMPORTANT the NFBC is to all of us. I don't think they can even APPRECIATE how much we love hanging together in New York, Chicago and Las Vegas. I don't think anyone else really UNDERSTANDS the remorse we all feel of having these next two weeks of live and online drafts/auctions cancelled and of possibly having the season cancelled.

And don't take me the wrong way, I TOTALLY understand why we have shut down as a nation and why everything involved with coronavirus is so much more important than fantasy baseball. I hope we shut down the country for how many weeks it takes to contain and eventually kill this virus. But I'm being asked to talk about sports for two hours and it's the last thing I want to talk about. I want to talk about how the loss of sports is hurting us mentally as we try to fight this physical virus. Does that make sense?

If you have passion for this subject and want to talk for 3-4 minutes on the air, I'm looking for volunteers between 10:30 pm ET and 11:30 ET. Just email me at [email protected] if you're interested and tell me a range of times you'd be free along with a phone number that we can reach you at. I mean I'll dedicate the whole two hours after I give my opening to talk with everyone if it makes sense. I just think it might be therapeutic for me, for you and for the listening audience, who isn't quite as passionate as we are about this, to hear from die-hard players for a couple of minutes each. By doing that, I think EVERYONE will feel the pain that we're all feeling right now as we desperately need a diversion from our lives.

Maybe this is a crazy idea and maybe it won't go like I'm expecting, but it feels like all SiriusXM hosts should shut up for a few weeks and just listen to our customers. They are the ones who are hurting. Yeah, our business could go right in the shitter if baseball is cancelled and we could be watching 17 years of hard work go right down the shitter with it. But I have a feeling that two hours of talking with our NFBC community could be uplifting for me, Tom, Darik and everyone here at SportsHub and it could be uplifting to the rest of the NFBC community and hopefully the fantasy baseball community.

Email me and I'll see what it looks like. Thanks all.

Oh, and we'll all be lying on a couch during this radio show. We are all patients right now and there really isn't a doctor in the house!!

Our show has been cancelled for Wednesday night as SiriusXM figures out how to do more remote shows with staffers and hosts. Thanks to everyone who reached out to me to be on the show as I really wanted this to be a therapy session and IT WAS GOING TO BE!!!

We may have the same theme next week, depending on the progress we learn over the next eight days. Thanks all and stay well/safe.
