I've always passed since I do so much other NFBC stuff, but since I'm not doing nearly as much, I'd be happy to play if there's still a spot so long as everyone agrees to go easy on the league newbie.

I miss this every year as I don’t check the boards enough...
Any other special auctions coming up??
I’d like to jump in if so. If not, just ignore this.

Co defending champ Marc Winokur will join me and Greg on our Sirius show tomorrow night at 10:15 pm ET to talk about how he thought tonight's auction went. Tune in and find out who Marc thinks is the guppy in the sea of me, Greg and Darik.

Re: 2021 GTD NFBC Auction- Tuesday Feb 23, 7 PM EST!(sold out)
We'll talk more about the auction tomorrow night on our Sirius show. Here's my roster. I'm really happy with how this turned out. I never get the top players I want in the GTD for less than their listed values but that happened with nearly everyone I targeted. I had so much money left over I spent $12 combined on two catchers when I normally set aside $4-$5 max. But at least that position shouldn't kill me this year. Having the leftover money helped me get a stronger No. 2 SP (Snell) than I was planning on targeting so I'm pumped about the Kershaw-Snell duo at the top of my rotation.
The one thing I wish I had done better is attack Saves with two more solid options. I had the money to do it but hopefully Karinchak lives up to all his hype and Rodriguez and Garrett are at least competent.
But overall this may be the best team I've ever put together in the GTD. Now let's see how the season goes. As always this was a lotta fun.
C-James McCann 7
C-Yadier Molina 5
1B-CJ Cron 10
2B-Keston Hiura 19

Re: 2021 GTD NFBC Auction- Tuesday Feb 23, 7 PM EST!(sold out)
My plan going in was to get a top hitter for around $45. Yelich was my preferred target since I expected him to go for less than the Big 4 hitters and Turner. I wanted Bichette but wasn't sure how badly Darik wanted him. I was prepared to spend $35 and if Darik went $36 I'd transition to Lindor or Harper as my No. 2 hitter. Darik bowed out quickly, though, and I got Bichette for less than I was prepared to pay.
When Yelich went way under his current price I shifted that savings to my pitching staff. My plan there was to get a $30 anchor (I was targeting Kershaw or Woodruff). When I saw some of the pitchers who normally go in the mid-$30s going closer to $30 I knew I could get Kershaw for the price I wanted. With my hitters savings I bumped up by No. 2 SP spot from the $15-$20 range into the mid-$20s and got Snell for $25.
I couldn't have scripted my first four buys any better:
Bichette $33
Yelich $39
Snell $25
Kershaw $29
I had Hiura slotted for $20 which is slightly over his current price. But with all the savings I had I was prepared to pay into the mid-$20s if necessary. That didn't happen as he went for $19 so I had another dollar to use elsewhere. So rather than punt catcher like I typically do I decided to get two solid ones. I really wanted d'Arnaud (who I got for a buck in last year's league, how things have changed) but missed out. Happy to get McCann and Yadi, both of whom will hit well enough that C won't be a drain on my batting average as is so often the case with the position.
My biggest regret is not locking in a more dominant closer since all of them were going so cheap. Hopefully the three I have will do enough to keep me competitive in Saves but I had the money to do better there so hopefully that won't end up haunting me. The only player I REALLY wanted who I didn't get was Devin Williams. I had $6 set aside and thought that'd be enough since he usually goes for $5 but Darik went $7 and I bowed out.
In the later rounds I really wanted Cron, Turner and Robles. The reports about Robles being in much better shape have me hoping he can get back to his 2019 level of play. If he can he's a massive value in the $15 range. I was laying off the top 3B for Turner who usually goes for $5. A mild bidding war bumped his price up a bit but I had the money to pay for a .300 hitter on the best team in baseball (I even hancuffed him with Rios in the reserve draft). I had no idea how much Cron would go for but I'm all over him at Coors. I was hoping he'd go in the $6-$8 range but he got priced up to $10 which could still end up being a huge value.
All in all I really like this team a lot but it's Feb. 24 so who the hell knows now. We got done in 3:45 so major kudos to everyone for using Max Bid and keeping bids moving promptly. That's BY FAR the fastest 15-team auction I've ever been in or monitored as an admin so great job everyone. Now let's start the season. I'm ready.

Re: 2021 GTD NFBC Auction- Tuesday Feb 23, 7 PM EST!(sold out)
My Strategy was to get an Anchor Ace under $40, a couple Power Bats and mix in some High
Batting Average Players. I also wanted to try and sneak through some young upside guys.
But in an Auction where your going up against other players that know as much as you or even more
that is no small task.
C G.Sanchez $7
C T.Stephenson $3
1B P.Alonso $24
2B DJ LeMahieu $26
SS C.Correa $14
3B E.Suarez $22
CI A.Vaughn $1
MI E.Andrus $1
OF C.Bellinger $33
OF C.Blackmon $15
OF A.Kiriloff $3
OF V.Reyes $3
OF J.Kelenic $3
UT B.Dalbec $1
P Trevor Bauer $35
P Charlie Morton $14
P Chris Paddack $14
P Sixto Sanchez $11
P Andrew Heaney $7
P Michael Kopech $2
P Devie Garcia $1
P Joakim Soria $4
P Trevor Rosenthal $16
R Alex Dickerson
R J.Heyward
R M.Mikolas
R S.Howard
R M.Brosseau
R T.Hauck
R T.Barnhart
Bauer was my Anchor and I got some good Pop in Bellinger, Alonso, Suarez and Sanchez.
LeMahieu and Blackmon were good BA gets. I was happy with my Mid-Round SP like Morton,
Paddack, Sanchez and Rosenthal.
As far as my Cheap guy Strategy, I targeted CJ Cron, Bobby Dalbec, Andrew Vaughn, Jared Kelenic,
Tarik Skubal, Alex Kiriloff.
Tom K outbid me on Cron($10) and I had no money left for Skubal. But, I did get Dalbec, Vaughn,
Kelenic and Kiriloff, so I cant complain. I got some Reserve OF to fill in for Kelenic and Kiriloff
while they face possible Service Time issues. Brosseau can cover for Vaughn if he goes down for a month
as well.
I lack Team Speed, but if I hit enough Homers it may not matter too much.
First Spring Games this Sunday, I am ready.

Lots of fun in this one. Was my first draft of year so was mildly unprepared but still like my team at the end of the day. Like my pitching more than my heading(probably short on power a little). Kept getting outbid on 3b power options and eventually decided on getting either Brian Anderson or Justin Turner for 6 or 7 bucks and got B.A.
Got Realmuto early at a discount because of his minor injury that I expect will heal by opening day. Love Rizzo and Olsen for a combined $26 and was happy to get Lindor at $33 which I think will thrive in NY. Love the upside of my pitching staff.

Thanks to Marc Winokur for joining me and Greg on our Sirius show last night to talk about the auction. Great stuff and I really loved how he said my team was far and way the best in the league and everyone else was playing for second.
(That's what I heard).
Thanks again Marc.

If I hadn't bid $5 on Garrett or $6 on Rodriguez I would've spent that on Bass. Those were the three at the end I was holding some money out for. I may end up regretting not waiting for Bass.ChipChopChip wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 12:17 pmGreg should have bought one of those cheap closers. Re: 2021 GTD NFBC Auction- Tuesday Feb 23, 7 PM EST!(sold out)
Now I can sympathize with our customers who bitch about the FantasyPros rankings after a draft or auction. Those bastards said I had the best offense and the second-worst pitching from this auction!!! I knew my pitching wasn't great, but 14th??ChipChopChip wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 12:17 pmGreg should have bought one of those cheap closers. I got Bass for $2, he could have had him for a dollar more
Yeah, I was too heavy on offense in the $10-$12 range and left myself with $30 for my last six pitching spots. I was too impatient on a second closer and didn't have the $5 for some of those final guys like LeClerc. Hector Neris is my second closer, which should last about a week.
It was good fun, for sure. My middle-of-the-pack squad needs some work, but I enjoyed the battle in the auction room. Everyone nominated players quickly and for good prices and that's what made it so intense and enjoyable.
