Wenceel Perez Will Remain OF-only Eligible In The NFBC

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue May 14, 2024 11:31 am

Yesterday I made a move involving Wenceel Perez that I need to rectify later today.

Wenceel Perez was OF-only eligible in all NFBC leagues throughout the drafting season and even in all FAAB pickups through Sunday. He did not play at all in the majors last year and we designated him as OF-only for the 43 games he played in the outfield last year in the minors.

On Monday, I found out that he should have had Second Base eligibility as he actually played 62 games at 2B in the minors. He has since played 23 games in the outfield in the majors, so to correct our mistake we added 2B eligibility to Wenceel Perez yesterday. Right now he is listed as 2B/MI/OF/UT eligible.

But according to our rules, we should not have changed position eligibility after Draft Day. We tried to rectify a wrong with his position eligibility and instead created another wrong by adding position eligibility. I made this decision and will admit it wasn't the correct one. He will remain OF-only eligible and will lose 2B eligibility this week.

Wenceel Perez was never drafted as a second baseman and was never picked up in FAAB as a second baseman. The move was made on Monday before the starting lineups deadline. He was started at 2B/MI in 13 NFBC pay set lineup leagues this week and will be OF-only eligible this weekend. Those teams will need to adjust their lineups accordingly, although he remains in those 13 lineups this part of the week as 2B/MI.

We apologize for any confusion, but need to correct a wrong decision that I made. We do not have an automated system for minor-league games played for those players who did not make the majors the previous year and I thought correcting this mistake was the correct move. It wasn't and so correcting the wrong before he's picked up in FAAB is the right move. I'm sorry for the confusion.

We will take any help in the off-season from our players to make sure we have every minor-leaguer correct with his position eligibility, but there's no question we need help in this area. Something like this was missed on our end and certainly caught way too late. That is on us. But the right solution is to make Wenceel Perez OF-only eligible the rest of the year and to move on.

Plan accordingly if you own him going forward and/or if you were planning on bidding on him this week in FAAB. Thanks all and good luck. And again, I apologize for the wrong decision I made on this one.
