Laurence Edelman Wins Week 9 Prize
Larry Edelman is a true fantasy baseball veteran. He’s been competing in events for the past 22 years and he’s an original member of the NFBC. His passion for the game is unquestioned.
But despite his prowess and his knowledge, one accomplishment had eluded him – a weekly prize in the NFBC.
No longer is that the case.
Thanks to a big pitching week, Edelman’s Heads team in New York 8 finished first in the NFBC last week with 3,209 points.
Jeremy Bonderman and Oliver Perez combined for 27 strikeouts while Francisco Rodriguez and Kevin Gregg teamed up for six saves to lead the pitching staff. The Heads offense was paced by Willy Taveras (.474, 3 SBs), Josh Bard (.455-1-6), Orlando Cabrera (.435) and Hunter Pence (.417-1-5).
“My pitching clearly carried me,” Edelman said. “My offense was decent but not earth shattering. My offensive numbers have struggled somewhat due to my biggest Draft Day blunder – I was badly burned by the Johnny Gomes fiasco, from whom I was expecting at least 25 dingers.
“I am still trying to find a way to overcome that void. I’m praying that he gets traded.”
An early season injury to B.J. Ryan also has put a hurt on Edelman’s team. Fortunately, he snared Jeremy Accardo in FAAB for $5. Gregg has also been a pleasant surprise thus far.
Edelman is married with two children and works as a manager for a New York bank. As an original member of the NFBC, he understands how difficult it is to claim a weekly prize so he is definitely pleased to place his name among those other weekly winners in the event’s history.
“I am amazed and humbled by the high level of skill exhibited by the NFBC participants,” he said. “So winning last week’s title is indeed an honor.”
