Korey Gardner Wins Week 18 Prize

Post by Tom Kessenich » Mon Aug 06, 2007 3:53 am

Congratulations to Korey Gardner, whose RotoPlay.com team in New York League 6 led the way in the NFBC last week with 3,264 points.

Huge weeks from Bobby Abreu (.600-3-9) and Ryan Zimmerman (.519-2-11) led the way offensively. Milton Bradley (.417-1-3) and Moises Alou (.389-2-4) also had strong weeks at the plate. Erik Bedard and Cole Hamels combined for 30 strikeouts while Bedard picked up two wins to lead the pitching staff.

For finishing first last week, Korey wins a Stan Musial 24x12 framed Cardinals filmstrip courtesy of Upper Deck Authenticated. Congratulations again to Korey and good luck to everyone in the NFBC this week.

Korey Gardner Wins Week 18 Prize

Korey Gardner may live in Pirates country but for one week of this baseball season, he couldn’t have been a bigger Yankees fan.

Thanks in large part to big weeks from a trio of Bronx Bombers, Gardner’s RotoPlay.com team in New York League 6 led the way in the NFBC last week with 3,264 points.

“Our strong week was a direct result of the Yankees huge week,” said Gardner, who lives in Hershey, PA with his wife and three children. “Bobby Abreu, Melky Cabrera and Hideki Matsui all had monster weeks for us.

“Ryan Zimmerman also had a solid week as well. In addition to the Yankees hot bats, our pitching got strong performances from Erik Bedard, Cole Hamels, and Andy Pettitte.”

Gardner is sitting atop New York League 6 due in large part to a tried and true draft strategy he’s used for years.

“We wanted to draft a big speed guy early (Jose Reyes), followed by some power hitters and then mix in the pitchers starting in Round 5-6 and later,” he said. “We believe in a balanced draft while leaving no category ignored. In the end, a little luck is definitely needed.”
