For those that love to read a no hold opinions of players this is a sad day. The Wise Guy Baseball Book was one of a kind. It had the roll up your sleeves get out of my way feel about it. The move is going to internet web sites for up to date info. Not surprising due to the dated info in a book. Still the insights you can get from reading a book are priceless.
The Wise Guy book was like a good friend who would talk to you when you had a spare moment. “So Gene? How do you feel about Maddux?” Not bad for a wimp! Well he never said that but close. I’m not one of the CDM crowd that knows Gene. I’ve played in leagues with him but always felt too humble to approach him. But I can see why they love him. A standup guy who will always admit when he made a mistake. The standard of a true Pro! Gene I’ll miss the book this year but hope you’ll write one down the road.

walla walla, I am curious, why are you bumping up a thread about Wise Guy BB on the General NFBC discussion thread? Isn't this more appropriate for the Fantasy BB / General Discussion thread?

Well Gene is a long time player. I'm sure there are many NFBC players who have enjoyed his book. And I'm sure he has brought in a lot of players to this game.
I have played against Gene since 2004 in the NFBC AL auction. In 2005 I went to a Ron Shandler first pitch is Mass. There was a guy selling the WiseGuy Baseball Book. When I saw who wrote it, I said "he's in my NFBC AL league" and I bought it. After the AL auction I showed it to him, he thought it was funny. I've used it the last three years. I enjoy it and it will be missed.
As for John Crane, it was nice to see him win a league this year. He does his best to get all the right info. This year he was finally rewarded.
