Las Vegas Plans

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Wed Jan 09, 2008 3:15 am

Okay folks, it's time to divulge my travel plans for the March event in case anyone wants to join me for fun in Sin City. This is the first year in which I will NOT be hosting a Fantasy Sports Trade Conference before our main event, so I'll have time to hang out and have a little fun before the auctions and drafts begin. Here's the schedule for the best host in the business:

Instead of staying a day after our event, I'm coming in a day earlier as Allegiant now has direct flights from Green Bay to Las Vegas that have to return on Mondays. So I'm coming into Las Vegas on Wednesday afternoon, March 12th and leaving Monday morning, March 17th. All of the conference tournaments are Thursday through Sunday, so there will actually be MORE basketball games to wager on than during March Madness. Anyone who wants to join me/us for some sportsbook gambling on Thursday is more than welcome.

So I'll be free for cocktails on Wednesday and Thursday is open for drinks or anything else that folks may have in mind. I know that Perry Van Hook put together a poker event after the Saturday draft a few years ago, but that's always tough to do with Las Vegas being so booked on weekends. Anyway, if folks wanted to assemble on Thursday night for something like that or just want to watch hoops games, I'm all for leading the charge.

A Fisher-like party would go over well on Thursday night as well. ;)

Friday-Saturday-Sunday will be busy with drafts and auctions, but each night is open for Corona's, I'm sure of that. ;)

Okay, so before you book your flights, think about enjoying the scenery of Las Vegas on Thursday and join us at the Flamingo for Corona's. It's a great way to meet the gang before the fights begin and it's become almost like a family reunion. See ya all there when you arrive.

Mmmmmmm....Vegas! :D

After what seems like a month of rain and cold...power outages, flooding, hail, shingles blowing off rooftops, tree's blowing over, and even shutting down a major bridge here in the Bay Area due to high winds...a lounge chair in the sand of the Mandalay Bay wave pool(haven't booked yet...just dreaming) with bikini clad women serving Rum Runners (gotta try one if you haven't already)...sounds awesome!

Body surfing in the sun of Vegas in March is amazing! Let alone the sportsbook being a few steps away. (I'll have to brush up on my NCAA basketball...I'm just not into basketball anymore.)

I'll be arriving in Vegas on Monday. Caesars Sportsbook usually has a good vibe going and its in the heart of the Strip right across from the Flamingo, but whatever the gang wants to do is cool. Childs, when are you heading out? From Greg's stories, it sounds like you usually have your sportsbook Mojo workin'. Are you good at picking hoops? Of course, I'm sure there will be preseason baseball lines to bet on as well.

I'll be arriving Thursday and am open to meeting any of the other early arrivals. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Greg: Not sure if NFBC has conducted draft at Flamingo before and am curious about wireless capabilites in/around the draft rooms. I understand need for good battery. Any additional cost? Need to pre-register to use wireless? I am staying at Flamingo, but will others be okay?

BTW: I had already offered to help with Friday AM drafts as I will be drafting at 4 PM that day. May be able to help Saturday AM as well. I'll keep in contact as drafts near.

Yes, this is our third year at the Flamingo between baseball and football. Others can comment on wireless capabilities in that room, but no there is not any additional costs. Bring a good battery and good luck. We'll update our worker needs for Friday morning, but just contact us via e-mail and I'm sure we'll be able to put you to work. Thanks.

Okay, for all you folks in the Midwest or North who are going to Las Vegas in three weeks and can hardly wait to leave winter for a few days, you'll relate to my story from yesterday. After reading this, SOMEONE better buy me a beer when they see me in Las Vegas. :D

This has been one of the worst winters in Wisconsin as we're nearing 80 inches of snow, which could be the most around here since they started recording levels 50+ years ago. And honestly, I don't think it's been above 32 degrees since the Seattle playoff game at Lambeau in early January. So most of this snow has just piled up to the point where it's dangerous on your house. And today it's finally going to get to 32, so that snow is going to get heavy and it could actually be too heavy for your roof.

So yesterday morning, for three freakin' hours, I RAKED snow off my house roof, garage roof and any roof I could reach. You actually buy a special snow rake (they're sold out and going for high prices on the black market :D ) and pull the snow off your roof. Then you get a ladder out, jump on your roof and keep pulling down from the peak down. The good thing is that there's a nice layer of ice at the bottom so that once you get the snow off you treacherously balance on the roof without slipping off. Fortunately, there's six feet of snow at the bottom to cushion your fall if you do slip.

RAKING SNOW. Calgon, take me away!!! :D The Flamingo pool and Las Vegas' 80+ degree temperatures can't come soon enough. My family should come with me to get out of here and we'll return when the floods begin. Sheesh.

Okay, see ya on Thursday night in Las Vegas. ;) Bring your own winter war stories for the campfire in the sportsbook. :D

We've actually had days where it did not reach 60 degrees and I can't remember the last time I wore shorts. Where's Al Gore now?

P.S. Friday Phoenix forecast is 78!!!

Hey "Colorado", what flight are you on? We're on a 11AM UAL flight out of DIA. Looks like we'll be getting in early enough to catch Eddie in his Margarita stained Cabana-Wear.................

...and for your daily VEGAS weather report...I like to wake up to their daily (Mon-Fri) 4 minute "Vegas News and weather" with Denise Pernula or Barrett Applegate (who cracks me up).

Nice way to start your morning coffee!

It's been fun to see the slowly climbing weather degrees! (Dec, Jan, Feb...creeping closer to that 78 plus degrees we need/crave!!!)
