My intention was to do draft-slot bidding in a chat room, but I think it may be easier via the message board.

NFBC Keeper Lge, Bidding for Slots

Post by KJ Duke » Mon Feb 11, 2008 9:10 am

I am suggesting the following.

#1 Tom will pick a nomination order randomly.

#2 The first three players will nominate draft slots of their choice.

#3 Bidding will commence ebay-style simulataneously on these 3 slots over the message board. You'll be bidding with your season's FAAB budget of $1,000. Any amount you pay for a draft slot will reduce your available FAAB for the remainder of the season, so bid wisely.

#4 Each bid cycle will end at 6pm pacific/9pm eastern of the following day, unless there is active late bidding. In such a case, bidding for that slot must be silent for 10 minutes (per the message board time stamp) before the bidding on that slot is final; this ensures anyone with a slow connection doesn't lose just because of their connection. Once bidding ends for one bid cycle, the next three players for nomination will have 2 hours to get their nominations in for the next day's cycle - if you don't nominate we default to the next highest available slot with a $0 bid. (yes, you can bid zero).

#5 You may bid on multiple slots, but if you win more than one you will be awarded only your highest bid. The other slot will be awarded to the next highest bidder. Once you have officially "won" a slot, you cannot bid again. If you win a slot before your turn to nominate comes up, your nomination will default to the highest remaining slot.

#6 DO NOT edit your message once posted. If you made a typo error, IMMEDIATELY re-post the correct bid after that --- do not edit any post in the bidding thread.

And remember, the minor lge draft order will be reverse of the major lge draft order, so factor that into your bidding if you want a high minor lge pick.

We will get bidding started with the first 3 nominations; it will take 5 days to complete once we get going. If I hear from everyone today, bidding for the first 3 slot nominations will begin tonight at 6pac/9east. Any questions?

Note, rules edited to account for $0 bids.

Terry, Greg and Jules, the slots you nominate will be bid on first, so please be ready with your nominations and a couple backups if we are lucky enough to begin tonight.

Bruce Lev - I don't have your email, please forward that or a phone number to me if I need to contact you.

Ok, I've heard from 12 of 15 so far, if I can get ahold of Greg Morgan, Michael Miranda and Mike Cameron we'll be starting tonight with a deadline tomorrow of 6pm pacifc/ 9pm eastern for the first round of bidding.

If anyone can't be near a computer at the deadline, you can call or text message me for an update or to bid. Email me and I will give you my phone number.

Doesn't look good for tonight, one of our owners is out of the country. I should hear from him by tomorrow.

The out-of-the-country issue is solved, all I need now is one person - Michael Miranda, where are you?

I work evenings. Contacting me last-minute for slot bidding and expecting me to be available is UNrealistic! Thank you.

Kevin, I know you want to do live bidding for the draft spots, but this could be tricky for a number of reasons. Doing it live on the message boards could allow non-members to jump in and influence what is going on with some of their comments. Secondly, it looks like it could be near impossible to get everyone together at the same time.

If you'd rather have owners just send in their bids for all 15 spots, Tom and I could then pick the top bids for each spot and handle this accordingly. That might be the easiest method. Just a thought from your friendly commissioner. ;)

Blind bids isn't an efficient use of FAAB from a player standpoint, open bidding is, and it's more fun.

I know I missed something. Did we stop the bidding because of Greg's suggestions or because we may (or may not) have a dropout or is the bidding on another thread that I can't find or what? Need update. Thanks
