A question for the top dogs...

Post by sportsbettingman » Tue Feb 19, 2008 6:37 am

I'm sitting here debating a laptop, due to the ease at which you can sort players by category from middle rounds on to fill categorical needs.

My question is this.

Terry, Shawn, Dan, Eddie, Mark, Kent, or any other league champs...do you or do you not use a laptop computer during your main event draft?

Not looking for pointers...just a generic "success rate to laptop" ratio. ;)

The Laptop is a tool that I use on draft day. My strategy requires it.

NEVER!!!! for many reasons, they are too busy catching up on previous picks and not looking ahead to their own picks and during the breaks they are reentering all their wrong pics. just my opinion. old school baby, just be prepared. i can answer for childs and gillis they are very anti computers. hell, childs doesnt even bring in a sheet to mark off of....dont mean to offend anyones strategy...give me my oldchool board and i guaranttee no computer program will be better prepared...believe dat!!! Have tried them in the past - they are a detriment if you try to track the draft on them. I use sometimes for data reference only.

Most people who don't use laptops fall into one of these IMO:

1) Computer challenged

2) Don't know the functions possible

3) Can't multitask very well

No offense of course. :)

Lance I am going to use one in the auction for almost everything. I too prefer pen and paper for the main event- however I will have one there this year to do a couple of specific functions but more of my work will be done by paper.

Thanks
Johnny - as of right now, I can make a case for any of 6 players going #2 (which is one of the reasons I think the middle slots have a good deal of value). It all depends on how u map out the rest of your draft.
Johnny- disclaimer I may or may not have some interests related to a league you are in at some point.Whenever you are torn between 2 guys I would suggest taking the guy at the position with less depth. That is why to me Hanley is the choice. I have made no secret that I think Hanley competes with Arod for the number one slot before the Miggy trade, now I would just call him a clear cut number 2 IMO.

Just do not draft both Thome and Hafner this year and your team will be much improved over last year from the start. Good luck in all your leagues this year.

If I were drafting a money league draft before I see hanley on the field healthy, I would likely pass on him at 2. I tend to be risk-averse with my early round picks

Mr. Gekko, first of all nuff respect do, I certainly am a rookie compared to you vets in this here NFBC. I've competed in fantasy baseball in "home" leagues for 4 yr's, but as y'all know the competition is nowhere near what it is here.

Since I saw you had a YouTube link, I checked it out and was surprised to hear you say that you'd take Markakis, and if he wasn't there, THEN you'd take Ichiro. Maybe I'm even more of a rookie than I thought, but I am def taking Ichi before 'Kakis. Care to elaborate?

Also, I have 4th pick in upcoming sat league...too early for Santana??? Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks & good luck to all.
Always be closing.

If you have a co-manager there, I would say a laptop would be fine. There is a lot to do, including thinking a bit. Adding complexity with a laptop, when you are alone, may be a bit too much. Even with a laptop make sure you have all needed lists and printouts. Remember that sh*t happens.
lol, I will try not to draft two DH's This time. I just couldn't get into the baseball thing last year. This will be my second baseball league in my whole life. I am going to give it a honest try this year.

Ill post my squad for everyone to laugh at later.

2008 NFBC Goal- Not to finish dead last.

BTW, a single piece of paper and a few writing instruments, you know, to twiddle between picks.

If you are asking then it is too early, then again you might have to draft Santana early because you don't know the pitching well enough to get out with lesser talent....
