Is there no other choice than ARod. He has been the first pick in all 23 satellite events. How can people of varied skill level, knowledge, experience and personal preferences all pick the same player. I know he was the best player in 2007, but is there no dissenting opinion of this years best. Last season 27 of 28 main event leagues had Albert Pujols in the number one slot based on his ’06 season. Although he had a good year, he was not the best pick.
Are people afraid not to pick Arod?
Is there no one better?
I would really appreciate the opinions of the people on this board to this phenomenon.

Good question and you are missing one obvious point.
To get pick one you have to KDS pick one first and it is b/c you covet Pujols in 07 and Arod in 08. If you think another guy is going to do better, no need to KDS pick one b/c you have a 95% shot of getting that guy later and if you do not then maybe you are getting an Arod type at pick 2 or 3.

yep, I was just gonna say that.. the only 2 ways I can see AROD not being picked first is if someone either got the #1 pick even though they didn't want the first pick (maybe they forgot to set their KDS), or you like drafting on the end because you get 2 picks in a row. Or he gets injured before the draft

maybe he's going #1 because he's the best fantasy player out there.

I have the #1 pick and will likely be taking ARod. Are there other players that I think could outperform Arod this upcoming season...of course. But am I willing to take that risk and draft those few other players at #1...don't think so. Simply stated, I'm going to take the safest path with the #1 pick.

if i was lucky enough to get number one, i would have taken Reyes. Maybe the only one.
Last yr. I had number 3 and i took Arod,

Pretty simple too. A-Rod is a monster five tool player in perfect health, off a monster season, playing for a team that will always have hitters on base in front of him. Hanley has ???, Reyes had a terrible second half of last year and does not supply enough power yet. Next 2 choices are 4 tool players (that I have in mind). He's a must have, safest choice on the board. Just my 2 cents.
Pete - Yankee fan. PS, I passed on A-Rod at #3 last year because I am an idiot and took former Yankee, Soriano.

OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

Totally agree with Dawg abour Arod but other choices would be Reyes to lock up SBS and taking Aramis or Wright at 1 if you think he will out perform arod batting clean up now will have more sbs and if you think he will hit 38-40 hrs then that would be other choice along with hanley Just an opinion

I think Ron Shandler mentioned this before on a podcast in Jan or Feb asking during the last 5-6 years, how many players drafted #1 overall ended up rated in that spot. If I can recall correctly, only like 1 did (Barry Bonds?).
Karabell said that starting pitchers typically finish in the top spot, like Johan in '04 and '06. But obviously, hitters are safer picks overall.
