but it has all the basics most need.

Well said. I just wish there was an option; for example hey for an extra $??? per entrant we could have the event at (insert option here)!

If the fee was resricted to Vegas players only, fine.

If the draft were held 30 miles in the desert adjacent to shallow graves on one side and a landfill on the other, you'd probably still get 100% showing up, Greg. :D

$189 for a room I'm never in is high enough...

It will never happen, but I'd look into Tahoe!

From what I have heard it is not only the money guarantees but also that many of the newer casinos do not desire this type of group is this the case? I'm with you Chris. Nothing but the best for our group and in time maybe Harrah's will see the value of our event and make the Rio and other top-notch properties they own be the "home of the NFBC." In time, maybe we can add a TV element to this, which would will help us with the hotels. We have a strong relationship with Harrah's right now and they like our two events, but we're obviously not big enough for them to care so much that they bend over backwards to keep our business.

All of the newer casinos are pushing business away, even with the economy as it is. The F&B guarantees and room guarantees are tough at those establishments and honestly that's the main reason we're happy to remain at the Flamingo. I hope everyone understands and will continue to remain happy with us until we really hit the BIG TIME!! :D

That would be ideal, obviously. The minimums are out of this world right now, but maybe one day we'll have that TV sponsor who will shoot for the very best and in my book that would qualify. WCOFF did it at the MGM Grand in 2002 and that was special, but there's a reason they haven't returned there...or anyone else, for that matter. Richard Gordon's son works at the Mirage and he was a facilitator on Saturday, so maybe I better give him a shout again. Maybe he has a deal for us in 2009!! ;)

I'd say stay at the Flamingo. Perfect location. Plenty of hotel choices within walking distance. Reasonable costs. You can't beat it. I love Caesars and that would be the Ultimate, but I doubt the cost/benefit ratio would make sense until a heavy hitting sponsor stepped to the plate.

The Flamingo was great in 2008 and will be fine in 2009.

In all honesty, those places would cost too much for the convention space. The only suggestion that I would give for the Flamingo is maybe give us a little more table space. Being on a corner with a partner and having partner teams on both sides of us, we felt a little too close. Maybe set the corners to be one team instead of putting a team on each side? Just some feedback..

You cant get much better as far as access is concerned. The rooms are reasonable and for those who elect to stay elsewhere, the monorail is right behind the Flamingo which works out great as far as I am concerned.

I vote to leave the location the same.

Instead, let's all just pool our money and build a Las Vegas casino with a sportsbook EXACTLY like the Stardust and free drink tickets for every $2 bet you make. Now THAT would be a WINNER!! :D I miss the Stardust when you see 16 March Madness games going off per day. Man.

Yup, I miss the Stardust also, it was a pretty classy joint for a lower end venue on the strip. Even had a Starbuck's to address my espresso needs. Moving forward as we must, I'm good to go wherever we end up. The benefits of the Flamingo have been noted, and I'm in agreement. However, if a smaller more intimate venue that could accomadate our conference needs at the right price could be found, I'm all for it. The Palms comes to mind providing they have the convention space. My only complaint with the Flamingo, which I've stayed at frequently outside of NFBC participation, is the food. It's either high end or low rent with high prices. In any case, just waiting for a time and place. 51 more weeks to go..............................

Here's an update on the Flamingo in 2009: We have a signed contract to return there with the main event again in the Sunset Ballroom and the side rooms on Friday for the auction leagues. We also have some rooms on Thursday if we decide to expand the fun to include some events all four days of March Madness. ;) We'll see what my mad mind has in store for 2009. ;)

We have a room block set aside at $189 per day and all of the rooms are GO rooms, the newly remodeled rooms on the side of the Convention Center. Those are sweet as I stayed in one this March. I'll have more data later on this, but the dates are March 20-22, 2009 at the Flamingo. See ya there.

Rick, I can see why you like the showers. You don't have to wait as long for the water to hit your head. :D
