Juan Pierre...loved by few, hated by many

Upon seeing where Ethier is now going to take reps at first base, I just had to laugh.

Whoodathunk that little one man, Pierre, could affect so many fantasy seasons. He is like a virus, first hitting Ethier, then Kemp, now Loney, is Andruw next?

If nobody gets hurt in the Dodger outfield or 1b, he could take as many as 50 ab's away from three different players while still not being very good bet himself!

In real baseball I think the Dodgers are quite happy with their situation and probably not even shopping Pierre, knowing they'd have to give him away anyway.

Loney owners have to start hoping for a quick start out of him to make it difficult for Torre to give Ethier time there. And what if Andruw Jones goes cold? Maybe 50 more at bats taken away.

Pierre fever, don't catch it!

Clearly only the ethier owners make out (due to adp). Pierre, Kemp, and now loney owners are at risk of getting burned. I could see the pierre and kemp stuff coming in spring training, but not loney. Torre must really love ethier!!!

I wonder how much of it is Torre trying to give looks to his players since he really doesn't know them that well. He came from the AL, rarely saw them play... has what, tape to watch, other LA personnel staff to tell him but I get the feeling he just wants to see who's got what in a variety of roles.

One thing I can't fathom - why does everyone keep saying Pierre is a hack? Didn't this guy produce 95-100 runs, bat .290, steal about 60 bases for 6 straight years? A leadoff man who doesn't stack up RBI's in the NL? Wow, that's rare....

Only argument I can see is that maybe he should be a #2 or a #7 hitter since his OBP isn't that hot, but seriously... where does the hate come from?

I'm counting on him this year to give me 75R,30RBI, 35SB and bat .285 - 12th round value where I got him... not sure where this should be hard for him to manage - with upside of an injury or a hot streak giving him even more potential.

Drink a big old glass of [hatorade] I guess, I'll take his contributions

I've got a funny feeling he's going to shop Ethier.

Showcasing him in the 3 spot in the lineup...then trying to show he can play OF and 1B.

Hmmm.

Dyv [/QB]In fantasy we don't give a damn about defense (other than it's impact on a player's PT), so I also was astonished at the level of hate for poor lil' Juan. Someone else had already pointed out that Pierre has more hits over the last 7 seasons than anyone not named Ichiro. How do you overlook a stat like that? When you throw in all of those stolen bases...he is a fantasy STUD!
Always be closing.
