(this will likely be the only week we can have some fun with the stats) Hairston is HOF for sure, but he is no Nady!
.500 BA, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 4 R.
Anyone care for the Tuffy Rhodes Special this week? A turkey sandwich with a little meat in the first bite, and then you are left with bread and a little mayo (fat-free).

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I like Hairston.. if he gets the PT, he should hit 25 HR and maybe bat .270 or so... he was a nice late draft pick.

10 minutes from a foreign country where you can just pretty much freely walk or drive across the border with copius supplies of legally bought steroids.
Just look at the Padre players from the last 15 years and tell me the hub of steriod use/supply wasn't in SD:
Ken Caminiti, Greg Vaughn, Phil Nevin, Phil Plantier, Brian & Marcus Giles, Ryan Klesko, Al Martin, Derek Bell, Ruben Rivera, Reggie Sanders, Bret Boone, Bubba Trammell, Mark Kotsay, Ron Gant, Jay Payton, Ramon Hernandez, Mike Piazza, Mike Cameron, & Scott Hairston.
I'd be willing to guess at most 1 or 2 of those guys weren't on something illegal, maybe all of them were. But it seems pretty clear to me that the steroid problem in baseball flowed out of Tijuana and right into San Diego.

If that is true, the Padres better drive the team bus over the line for some Tijuana specials, because that team is a brutal hitting team.

if they drove the bus to cinci or phily- they would hit much better and pitch much worse.

Future HOF Scott Hairston batted leadoff today and went 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored. He reached base in all 4 plate appearances...
And so the legend grows...

I'll make sure the legend comes back down to earth next week. I have him on one of my benches this week and I'll be sure to start him next week. That should bring him back to earth!
