Marcel Marceau? :D

Actually, being a homer, I really like Pete Van Weiren. I think he has been vastly underrated.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

For a team, Don Sutton, hands down (where is he now since he left Atlanta?).

Wayne, I didn't realize that you were that close to home!

What happened to Don Sutton? Ditto on Pete, he's good. But he ain't Don Sutton.

Would you agree that Skip Carey was one of the worst?

Biggest homers out there are the Nats team- if you listen to them you think they are the Yankees in the late 90's.

I absolutely love to go to sleep in the east coast listening to Scully call a game. I have quickly come to think he is the best out there. I do not know if any of you all know much about him personally. I have heard that he is extremely nice and polite, but has zero friends and no one besides his immediate family knows him well at all. I think he lost a child a couple of years ago too and apparently rightfully so it just killed him.

Steve Stone and Bob Brenley. I'm not a Cubs fan but WGN really knows how to hire analysts.

Don Sutton does television for the Washington Nationals. I could not tell his and Van Wieren's voice apart when he was with Atlanta.

[/QUOTE]I've heard he is a lot like Johnny Carson was, nice, polite to the public. But would rather be alone or with their family. Cruel twist of fate to be so good in the public eye and yearn to be anywhere else. I think he may be the only announcer left that works solo.

When Bill King was with us he seemed to want to work solo and Ken Korach would rarely butt in in his innings. Not sure why since he was the king of dead air, rest in peace.

I really like Korach, though. He's got a billion dollar voice that just sounds like baseball. And I rarely hear him say anything that is objectionable. He knows the game and players well, and make some really good big calls.

Lately, I've been enjoying one of the fellas who does Diamondbacks TV.

I grew up with Russ Hodges and Lon Simmons, great memories.

Diamondback announcers are Thom Brenneman and Mark Grace.

I still can't figure out Michael Kay of the Yankees. Most games the man is brilliant and then he'll have a klinker that makes him very annoying.

No love for Remy "Rem-Dawg" and Orsillo?

The best inning I've heard called was a few years ago when they let Dennis Leary & another guy whose name I can't recall take over. Hilarious!

Sentiment aside. Ron Santo is not very good as an analyst. I know he is a fixture in Chicago, but between his "Oh No" and "Arrggghhh" he really doesen't add very much, usually parroting his partner.

I'm sure Cub fans will disagree.

I went back and checked - it doesn't say anything about HOF announcers being ineligible.

Not sure how you guys could go onto the second page without someone mentioning THE BEST - Vin Scully - 50+ years and going strong

....unless I misread the word best and it's supposed to be worst since several of those have been nominated.

I'd much rather hear Santo bemoan another Cubs loss, "oh noo, do you believe that?" over Joe f*cking Morgan(we get it Joe, you were an above avg player) and Joe Buck. Horrible.

Every game is the same old thing with the same old boring stories and cliches.

If I hear "Mice and Men" reference again, I'm going to hurl.

I grew up listening to Dick Enberg and Don Drydale doing the Angel games. They were awesome also, "Oh My", especially all the Nolan Ryan games..

In Milwaukee you get Bob Uecker. He's been with the Brewers since they came to Milwaukee. Love his old stories from his playing days (not so good playing days). Jim Powell who he works with on the radio sounds just like him and he'll take over I'm sure when Uke hangs it up.

My vote goes to Jack "Ground ball to Ozzie" Buck.
I feel like I'm the Jerry Quarry of the NFBC.
