Late Season DL...Out for Season Notes
Greg, I thought this year consideration was being
given to players who are hurt or out for the
season, but because of it being late season are
not placed on the DL....For example: In the NFBC
Player Notes, Jeff Francis and S. Marcum have
been officially announced by their respective
teams as being done for the season, I thought I
remembered reading that in those situations some
consideration for replacement (midweek) was going
to be allowed this year....NO?

That was part of our DL rule last year, but the sentiment from our players was that too much subjective opinion was needed for those September injuries so we do not have that rule in place for 2008. Sorry. So now the only way you can make a roster change on Friday is if a player is OFFICIALLY on the MLB DL as of today. Sorry, but good luck.

Late Season DL...Out for Season Notes
With SOOOOOOOO much cash on the line at this point of the season, I still find it upseting that we have to live with players that are clearly not going to play.
Once we hit Sept 1st, most MLB teams expand. This renders the Friday DL rule moot for most cases when we need the flexibility the most. How hard could it be for 2009 to allow ROSTER changes on Fridays for the weekend series?
This brings into player roster management and FAAB becomes even more important DOWN the stretch. Just a thought.

Anything that leads to a strategy where you maximize starters on your bench to maximize starts is all bad and a perversion of the rules. I will not play in a daily league and that is getting awfully close. It was fine last year and it is fine this year. It affects very few people very little. The Friday DL rule is fine during the year but fairly unnecessary and the September rules are much the same.
Chance favors the prepared mind.

if he out for the year and not on the dl, hopefully u have someone on the bench to slide in or some faab left to pick some one up,,part of managing your team,,,,PLAY ON

Totally agree. Make the last weekend a double roster adjustment week. The last week has become week 17 of the NFL. Good luck setting your lineup on monday for the last weekend's series. What a great way to decide all the leagues $ winners.
A double roster adjustment the last week of the season changes the NFBC into a daily move league ? Hardly.

A double roster adjustment the last week of the season changes the NFBC into a daily move league ? Hardly. That is you who said the last week. Sack was suggesting all of September. In order to compete in wins and K's, you'd need to have seven SP's on your bench and switch them in every Friday after your first batch of one start guys already threw. Great way for guys who always compete in the overall (like you) to lose their own league by refusing to compromise their rate stats. Don't know that you'd be the first to complain, but you should be.
One week wouln't be as much of a mess but it would make the last faab week far too important and again offer middling teams the chance to get ahead by virtue of some creative faabing in the last week rather than having an actual good team.

We're just talking about the last week. For starters why not have the freedom to adjust your offensive lineup only on friday of the last week ? Let's put winning in the hands of the owners as opposed to the whims of how MLB's managers frig around with players the last week/weekend of the year.

What do you mean every friday ? We're just talking about the last week.Again, Sack suggested every week of September. You came up with one week after my initial post.
I added this to my last post after you responded:
One week wouln't be as much of a mess but it would make the last faab week far too important and again offer middling teams the chance to get ahead by virtue of some creative faabing in the last week rather than having an actual good team.As you know the politics of last week faabing are already convoluted. Offering people the chance to run up wins and K's with extra starters would be a much bigger deal than circumventing the whims of managers.
For example, let's say I am right behind you in your league and my WHIP and ERA are pretty much immobile while I can gain lots of points in Wins and K's. The guys on my bench are no good after the last week so I drop all seven of them and pick up 7 free agent SP's and then slide all my guys out and the others in on Friday so that I get 14 starts on the week (or 18 if I am immobile in saves). Now I beat you by manipulating the new rule rather than by having a better team than you.

I don't see the same issues involving the offense the last friday of the season. Again, the NFL Week 17 mentality - team clinches and they rest their starters. Most football contests end week 16. Baseball does not. Philly clinches thursday so Howard,Utley,Rollins get friday and saturday off. Wouldn't it be nice to utilize your bench at that point instead of being screwed at the most crucial weekend of the year ?

I'm applying the Friday DL rule to SEPT 1st to the wire because that is when major league rosters expand. The DL becomes a non factor at this point in most cases and it is when WE need to adjust the most.
I 100% agree and I'm not pushing for twice a week changes in order to MAXIMIZE the wins and k's. I would like to find a way, however, to remove a guy that is injured or suddenly "shut-down" on Tuesday afternoon. How we do that, I'm not sure ......... but we need to figure something out.
The Friday D/L rule works well enough for the first 5 months, just seems a shame to be handcuffed those final few weeks when it matters most.
