2008 NFBC Champion Profile - Maurice Gregory

It felt great to win the title, after our first go round wasn't quite as successful in 2006. It proved that the more time spent on researching different sites throughout the year can pay off.

One of our main keys to success was being very active on the FAAB. We got Salomon Torres for $247 early on, and he came through big time. The first few months we were around the middle of the pack, but when CC Sabathia was traded to the Brewers it all took off. We actually got into the top 10 for a few weeks before falling out late. The last three weeks were losing ground quickly in our league, so we went with three starters and six relievers down the stretch. That strategy seemed to make some others teams in the league a little confused, but it ended up working out for us in the end.

Our main focus the first few rounds of the draft was offense and to get a top notch catcher in the first four rounds. We ended up with Joe Mauer (2008 AL Batting Champ) in the fourth round. Overall the competition in our league was great and we had a few funny guys that would post some very funny messages on the board. That made the league alot more interesting.

Grant and I have been playing in fantasy baseball and football home leagues since 2002. We played in the NFBC in 2006. All in all we had a great time, and we look forward to Vegas in March.
