Thoughts on my team? Draft experience was great! Think it's a little light on pop, a product of taking Reyes #1 and some extra pitching early. But all-in-all a solid roster.

[/QUOTE]Thanks for the feedback. I agree with you that I don't have many big sticks, but hoping each player can contribute basically 15-25 HRs and keep me close in that category. Also noticed that in our league closers went pretty quick. I hope Jenks and Bell will keep me in the middle of the pack. Did anyone else's draft have the closers with jobs go by basically the 9th round?

Hey waht's up guys.

I'm a rookie manager and I would appreciate some feedback.

My perceived weaknesses are speed and having only one closer. (I may stick with one closer and follow gekko's thinking)

Thoughts on my team? Draft experience was great! Ok. I'm in your league so take this for what it's worth .

I think you project about 225hr, 1050 rbi & runs, 120+ sb, and high 270's avg. I think that is about middle of pack in hitting points.

Pitching; You have some upside and high win potential. Saves are a question mark with the Jenks and Bell( I'm in the same boat with my team). I actually took Cla Meredith in RD 30 as a backup to your H Bell.

By the way. I had the fifth pick. I thought that if any of the Big 4 did slip to me that it would be Reyes. I guess I was somewhat surprised that you took him first although I don't think that he was the wrong pick. I think anyone of the four (Reyes, HRam, Wright, or Albert ) are worth the first pick. I do think that in your position and having taken Reyes first, when ARod came back to you that I would have taken him at the turn.

Just my opinion. Good Luck this Year !

I rarely post to comment on other's teams etc., but at first glance I think this was a great draft. To be this solid at every position and have the depth of guys like Smoltz and Tracy was a great job. Looks to have good balance throughout.

Nice job. Good luck.

From the 12 spot in Chicago 3

There wasn't much value early on in this draft as everyone seemed to be dead on with their picks, great group.

Hey Billy

Did not get to talk you much in NY. Me and a few went to R O'Gradys after the draft. Anyway you were in a tough league and you had some one draft OF's in 1st 4 rounds plus some other strange picks SP's ran so much. Not too bad though Bill and Greinke based on how sps went are a good start. Votto and Fielder I think could give you best scenario 70 Hr's and Wright is right. SP' are average based on your league Use FAAB for D. Bush. Closeres are closers Do not worry. Best pick and of course I say this because I took him too, F Lewis. Batting 3rd with Molina at clean up he will steal steal which is what you drafted him for. Batting 3rd with pop in his bat could be could for 280 80 15 80 25 No too bad.

Good Luck

Marty Marty,

Thanks for the comments. I know I am a starter or two away fromwhat I want from my team but that is what FAAB is for (by the way, D.Bush was taken already).

Can't remember much from your squad (looked at so many boards and teams), but it looks like we will be in the "Fred Lewis fan club" this year. I too like his chances hitting 3rd, and think that makes him the best of the "rounds 11-14 OF club".

Best of luck to you this year Marty! :D

here is my draft from Chicago 1 pick 4

I was somewhat surprised when Hanley fell to me but he has the most injury risk out of the other 3, so I can understand, but could not pass when he fell to 4

C - Doumit - 8

C - Inge - 22

1B - Morneau - 2

2B - Alexei - 3

3B - C Davis - 4

SS - Hanley - 1

MI - K Matsui - 15

CI - Guillen - 12

OF - Pence - 5

OF - Ordonez - 6

OF - Dye - 9

OF - Nady - 14

OF - Byrnes - 18/Duncan or Owens

UT - F Gutierrez - 25

SP - King Felix - 7

SP - S Baker - 10

SP - Carpenter - 13

SP - Jimenez - 17

SP - Morrow - 19

SP - Smoltz - 20

SP - Hanson - 21

RP - Lyon - 11

RP - Corpas - 16

R - Balfour - 23

R - Lohse - 24

R - J Owens - 26

R - Cahill - 27

R - Duncan - 28

R - De La Rosa - 29

R - G Sanchez - 30

I really like the offense we have put together, could be a couple of SB short, but other 4 cats are real solid. Fell behind on the relief pitcher run but they just went too early. Took a lot of pitchers with upside, could be hitting the waiver wire early and often, will need a pitcher or 2 to fill in early for Morrow and Smoltz

Chicago 4, Pick 5

1) M Cabrera; would have taken any of the big 4 if they got to me, plan was to go with Miggy if not.

2) A Soriano; passed on ARod, thought Soriano was best power/speed mix remaining

3) J Ellsbury; I was planning speed guy here, that almost changed when ARod was still on the board after the 2/3 turn, but he went one in front of me at 3.4

4) J Peavy; Plan was starter here, wanted Halladay, he was gone.

5) R Oswalt; Debated between SP and CL here. I was thinking closers would go in the 20 picks before coming back to me, I was right but I really like Oswalt and couldn’t pass on him. Of course now I have to root against him on opening day against the Cubs

6) A Huff; Got Huff in Rd 26 last year. Wow. Wanted to work my 1B/3B/CM situation out early

7) R Doumit; Wasn’t in my plans. Liked the avg and position

8) M Capps; This pick was in the middle of a closer run that saw a run about 12 closers in 24 picks

9) V Wells; Love Wells, hope he stays healthy

10) L Milledge; Just looking for balance. Really like my avg to this point, gives me options later.

11) H Kendrick; I think Weeks was still available. I should have taken him instead. I could take on the poor avg and would have more power/speed. Really a bad pick coming out the break.

12) H Street; Needed a second closer. I thought Street was the best option remaining. It was a reach in Rd 12 but I felt I had to go there.

13) P Polanco; My worst pick. Not because of the player per se, but the way I picked him. Straight-out, no plan, panic pick. I had just picked Street. I had 3 or 4 guys in mind and they all went in the next 10 picks. Now I’m on the clock. No plan, f**k. Think, maybe Tejada. Look at projections, they say he’s 34yo. That can’t be right. “30 sec”. Stay calm. “15 sec” . Alright think. “5 sec” f***. POLANCO!

14) J Thome; I need some power and speed. I get one side of the equation.

15) G Meche; I need some K’s . Meche or W Rodriguez? I go Gil

16) D Span; Steals that I need at what I think is good value.

17) M Mora; In spring training he said he was going to hit .340 this year. Ok, I’ll bite.

18) E Renteria; Best SS remaining. Descent numbers.

19) D Wheeler; An early flyer. But Percival is 58yo, he can’t pitch forever.

20) R Wolf; I don’t know. I’m ready for the break. Tough 11-20 rounds. I need to make some hay in the next couple picks.

21) B Inge; nice second catcher. Avg doesn’t hurt me

22) T Wiggington; M Mora insurance

23) K Uehara;

24) D Braden; filling out starters with Uehara and Braden. I’ll have a short leash on these two

25) J Lewis; I’m a Cub fan. I’ve seen K Wood his whole career, Lewis will get some saves

26) J Lugo;

27) R Branyon; Might hit 30 hr’s and never get in my lineup.

28) B Looper; My spot starter

29) K Fukodome; back up outfielder and I show some Cub love

30) C Meredith; Who’s Meredith? Who’s H Bell? I’ll take a chance.

Mankind, I have not commented on any teams but this team is DANGEROUS!! If you can get some saves off the waiver wire you are going to be in the hunt in a big way, in my humble opinion.

Thank-you for the kind words. I really feel good with this team, only time will tell.

I know my relievers are weak, but at least I have 2 closers! ;)

Thoughts? Billy, great to meet you. Thanks for all the good work the night before at the $1300 auction. I thought our league was surreal. I think yours is one of the top teams. Both of us are going to be stuck looking for closers all year I am guessing! Great luck this year, I expect Quahogs to be just brutal on us!
