Interesting. If he is sent down, it will because the don't need a fifth starter for a week or two.

Washington named Jordan Zimmermann as its fifth starter. The Nats will not need a fifth starter until April 19, and Zimmermann will be kept in the minors -- probably with Class AAA Syracuse -- until then.

I'm guesing the K's let you down, right...the K's! (annoying enough!)

I was actually impressed. For a ML debut, you could certainly do worse. He showed good command and a good head the few times he got himself in trouble.
I suppose if he was named Jordan Cahill or Dallas Zimmerman, brian would appreciate him more:P

Well maybe it wasn't a spectacular maiden performance. He only had 3k's, but if he can give the 4 teams I own him on a win, a 3.00ERA and 1.16 WHIP, not to mention 72 pitches (51 strikes)through 6 innings and a 9-5 GB/FB ratio, every time out? I'll be satisfied.

I suppose if he was named Jordan Cahill or Dallas Zimmerman, brian would appreciate him more:P Funny you should say. He looked similar to Dallas Braden, statistically. Since I have Braden in my lineup, that isn't really a bad thing to me, but he was hyped on these boards as the next Scherzer or Volquez--a dominating strikeout artist. Usually those guys strikeout the world in their first appearance so I'm not sure how much he will grow.
As for your other comments, Cahill will be getting hit hard in 3...2...1, assuming he doesn't change his ways. a 1:5 K/walk ratio will have major league hitters catching up to you and teaching you a lesson in short order. He is better than this but he'll need to start showing it.
Yes, I drafted a lot of A's pitchers this year, but over time I don't think I have had any more A's than any other team. Last year, I don't think I drafted any, for example. Why this year? Because none of their pitchers was drafted before round 20 and they have a team ERA of 3.63. Now you know I do my homework on every player, but we can make it easier by just saying that that has pretty much been the A's team ERA every year this century and I didn't see any reason to think it'd change this year. There is no way I'm not going to take advantage of that situation. You can note that I didn't draft any A's hitters if that helps you to understand I was taking advantage of a situation and not supporting the home team.

Zimmerman to MINORS!!!
The thing I like about the "Two-N" version of a Washington Zimmerman(n) is his competition on a 2-10 Gnationals team...Daniel Cabrera, Scott Olsen, and Shairon Martis, who are a combined 1-3, with 28 ER in 40.3 IP (6.248 ERA) with 18 BB to go with 18 K.
Zimmerman(n) pitches as well as he did last night, he should have no problem moving up in the rotation pecking order. Won't crack 13 wins, but he could challend Lannan as the defacto "Ace".

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Being his first start and two rain delays, I thought he pitched well. He got out of a few jams.
Once he learns to mix up his pitches (the Braves were sitting on his heater), he could be potentially dangerous.
The numbers that stick out to me are ONE walk in six innings and only 72 pitches in 6 full innings. Once he starts missing bats, 7-8 K's and good WHIP should follow.
In bigger news.....Joel Homerahan came in the 9th inning for his first save and DID NOT let up a run!!!!

I didn't get to watch.
Brian says underwhelmed. RotoNews says terrific.
The final numbers came out between those two opinions.
