Ryan Doumit out 8-10 Weeks...

Post by Mankind » Tue Apr 21, 2009 9:26 am

Updating a previous report, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Pittsburgh Pirates C Ryan Doumit (wrist) will undergo right wrist surgery Thursday, April 23, and will miss eight to 10 weeks. Doumit's wrist has a minimally displaced fracture of the scaphoid bone, which will have pins inserted. "OUCH"

Not a great start for catchers in general...and now even worse! Soto, McCann, Doumit.

Looking over the "Player Ratings" under catcher makes me recall the wise words of Walla Walla's arch enemy!

Looking over the "Player Ratings" under catcher makes me recall the wise words of Walla Walla's arch enemy! Don't forget Mauer. He's missing at least the first month of the season. What a rough, rough start for catchers and this is the highest any group of catchers has gone in the NFBC in six years. A big ouch here and I feel bad for Doumit owners. He was set for a big year.

Having Doumit in two leagues (as well as Soto in three, and McCann in two, and Mauer in one), this was not the best of news! So, what do Doumit owners do with him? It kills your roster flexibility by tying up a spot for 10 weeks with a Catcher who may or may not have a decent final 12 weeks of the season. So, do you cut him? As soon as you cut him, he might come back early and hit like he did last year. He will be appearing on some drop lists next Sunday ... not sure what I am going to do yet ...

He ain't coming back early from a wrist fracture with pins. Plus, this kills his power this year.

Eddie I feel your pain. I too grabbed Doumit in the 7th, and it was the first time I ever went C early - ugh!

This is a bitter pill to swallow - on a Tues to boot.

He is injury prone to begin with. There goes my Main Event team. Now, I can roll with Ramon Castro (until Schneider gets back) and T. Teagarden. This, of course, is before my shot at getting Barajas, Jamarillo/Diaz, or C. Coste. Gosh, cant wait! Another year down the tubes. Or, I could attempt to bid big cash on Matt Treanor.

Thanks, to the Pitt post-gazette for saying his x-rays came back negative, and now he has a break. Dont x-rays check for that?

8-10 weeks? Cut or Keep? Thats 2 months minimum! Could end up being the season for all we know. So, do I carry 4 catchers for that long? 2 years in a row...last year I drafted Victor Martinez and he gets hurt.

**** on this! That sucks!

This reporting is horrible too. I got completely jerked around with the Jacobs probable tag in my championship game (that cost me some green) last year. First they say he is a lock to play, then he is out. Of course, he played at 4 est, and the replacement I had left was not the caliber of Jacobs.

How much for Jaramillo FAAB you think? Bueller? Anyone?

Looking over the "Player Ratings" under catcher makes me recall the wise words of Walla Walla's arch enemy! Well, I have Iannetta so I should be okay...hold on a minute...what's that?...you don't say...only 3, really?...but the whole reason I didn't take Wieters was because I didn't want to wait until May to get production from that spot! Um, nevermind.

All this negativity from all these baseball people! ;)

Seriously, all the diehard baseball owners I met on draft weekend said they hated fantasy football because if you lost your 1st round pick (Brady was brought up more than once) that there is NO WAY you could win.

Sounds like a lot of people feel the same way about a 7th or 8th round CATCHER!!

Oh by the way, I DID draft Doumit in the Main, but I am not jumping ship just yet. ;)

I'm not sure how to feel...ugghh. I have him in 1 of my satellites so that sucks. I don't have him in the main so that helps me a bit with my competition there. I definitely feel for the guys who took a good catcher early this year... I had the same strategy but I was "unlucky" when Mauer, Doumit, Ianetta, and McCann were all picked before it was my turn again. I got "stuck" with Weiters with the 10th pick in the 11th rd... now it doesn't seem so bad.

At least McCann is back!
