Oscar Solamillos Is Week 7 NFBC Winner

Post by Tom Kessenich » Mon May 25, 2009 3:56 am

Congratulations to Oscar Solamillos, whose Planet Orange team in Las Vegas league 11 led the way in the NFBC last week with 3,317 points.

A monster week from Michael Cuddyer (.448-4-12, 10 runs) led the way offensively. Nelson Cruz (.391-4-9-3), Carl Crawford (4 SBs) and Shane Victorino (3 SBs) also had good weeks at the plate. Felix Hernandez and Kyle Lohse combined for two wins and 24 Ks while Chad Qualls and David Aardsma combined for five saves to lead the pitching.

Congratulations again to Oscar and good luck to everyone in the NFBC this week.

Oscar Solamillos Is Week 7 NFBC Winner

Oscar Solamillos wasn’t going to stick to the Average Draft Position list for his NFBC draft this year. He had a list of players he was targeting and he was prepared to take them sooner than their ADP suggested he should if necessary.

Last week, the fruits of that plan paid nice dividends.

A monster week from Michael Cuddyer (.448-4-12, 10 runs) led the way offensively as Solamillos’ Planet Orange team in Las Vegas League 11 led the way in the NFBC with 3,317 points..

“I targeted 10 ‘must have’ players and drafted the remainder of my team around them,” Solamillos said. “The five position players were Nelson Cruz, Hank Blalock, Paul Konerko, Nick Swisher, and Casey Kotchman. The five pitchers were Felix Hernandez, Eric Bedard, Brett Myers, Chad Qualls, and Jordan Zimmerman. Nelson Cruz in the fifth round and Konerko in the seventh raised some eyebrows and the draft table.”

The 55-year-old Solamillos lives in Phoenix and is retired from the U.S. Navy. He’s married two sons. While in the Navy, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Yokosuka, Japan, Guam and San Diego.
