Post by Tom Kessenich » Mon Jun 29, 2009 3:06 am

Congratulations to Shawn Johnson, whose Fakawee Tribe team in the Phone/Online League 2 led the way in the NFBC last week with 3,429.5 points.

Jayson Werth (.474-3-5), Grady Sizemore (.300-1-8), Paul Konerko (.318, 3 HRs) and Derek Jeter (.438, 3 SBs) led the way offensively. Aaron Cook and Javier Vazquez combined for three wins and 21 strikeouts while Huston Street and Heath Bell combined for five saves to lead the pitching staff.

Congratulations again to Shawn and good luck to everyone in the NFBC this week.

Shawn Johnson Is Week 12 NFBC Winner

A year ago, Shawn Johnson endured a heartbreaking loss in the Ultimate. He came up one point short of the league title. A single home run would have given him the $40,000 prize.

One year later, Johnson has his sights set on the NFBC’s biggest prize. And he took a step in the right direction toward accomplishing that goal last week.

Johnson’s Fakawee Tribe team in the Phone/Online League 2 led the way in the NFBC last week with 3,429.5 points.

“This year I have two Super league teams and my Main Event team are all doing well,” Johnson said. “This past week, my pitching was lights out. At the dish, Werth and Konerko hit three bombs apiece, Jeter stole three bags and hit .438 and B.J. Upton is starting to come around. It was also nice to get Sizemore back.”

FAAB has paid dividends so far as Johnson grabbed Street off the Waiver Wir earlier this year. In order to win the overall, though, he knows he needs a boost from some current underachievers.

“I’m hoping Ankiel can get his season turned around,” Johnson said. “Getting Carlos Quentin back from the dead will be crucial if I’m going to make a serious run.”

The 29-year-old Johnson is a college football coach at Fordham University. This is his third year in the NFBC.
