Leonard Ringle Is Week 23 NFBC Winner

Leonard Ringle isn’t going to lie. A little luck can go a long way toward achieving success in fantasy baseball.

Last week, Ringle had some good fortune go his way. And that proved to be the difference in propelling his L and M team in New York League 2 to the top of the NFBC last week with 3,340.5 points.

Billy Butler (.419-2-12), Raul Ibanez (.333-4-7), Mark Teixeira (.346-2-7) and Shane Victorino (.353-1-3) led the way offensively. Vicente Padilla and Clay Buchholz combined for three wins and 18 strikeouts while Joakim Soria had four saves to lead the pitching staff.

“Luck played a big part,” he said. “Last week, I was about to drop Padilla because the Dodgers signed Garland, but within a few hours to go before the deadline last Sunday, I read the Dodgers were going with a six-man rotation, and I kept him. He won twice last week.

“Also, I am in New York League 2 and the standings are very tight between the top teams and I need strikeouts and wins so I was planning to go with eight starters and only Aardsma as a closer. But the matchups I had with my starting pitchers were bad and I could not find eight starters so I put in Soria instead and he got four saves.”

That timely pitching was a bonus. The big numbers from the offense was par for the course for Ringle’s team.

“The offense has been great this year and Texeira, Butler and Ibanez had great weeks,” he said. “Also, I picked Alex Rodriguez in Round 2 and that has worked out. He had another good week. To compensate for his loss of power during the beginning of the year, I drafted Reynolds and Branyan and as a result, home runs have not been a problem this year. Only stolen bases have been hard to come by so picking up Stubbs a few weeks ago was a great addition. He had a couple of steals last week.”

The 53-year-old Ringle is an attorney living in Manhattan. He has been with the NFBC since its inception and is hoping for a big finish to take home the New York League 2 title.

“New York League 2 has been extremely competitive and it will be a fight to the finish,” he said. “I wish the teams in contention good luck.”
