ONLINE DRAFTS NEED IMPROVEMENT

Post by Walla Walla » Wed Sep 23, 2009 5:23 pm

I hope like hell MDC is not the draft site for next year. I know Greg likes it from his end.

But from my end over the last few years I've had nothing but trouble and have seen no moves to improve the draft format. If things stay the same as I'm sure they will than I'll pass in the future. Live events only and cutting back on those. Maybe a main event and a Auction. Maybe.

Okaaaaayyyy

I think MDC is fantastic. I've drafted countless leagues online and have NEVER had a problem. If something popped up with another user someone is right there addressing the issue. Please don't switch from MDC

use a pc like this and there MAYyyyyyy be hiccups.

I love this post!

I completely disagree, but ya gotta love the post.

There are not many drafting sites better than the one at MDC with Geoff and Jason running the show. They are always there to help. If something goes awry, they are on the job. Sure, there are things that can be improved, but a quality site nonetheless.

Even though I missed the 'coming out of retirement' post, its good to see you in mid-off-season form. Great stuff.

MDC is a terrific site. Like others that have posted, I have had no problems. I think WALLA's problem possibly is user error. :D

I'm a fan of MDC. Both Geoff and Jason have ALWAYS been quick to respond and help with a question. The few times I've had a connection/computer issue, they have always had a commish standing at the ready for a call.

Love MDC, I wouldn't change a thing despite the fact I respect John's opinion.

I don't like West Coast drafters ( especially those that reside in Las Vegas ) that use all of there alloted time and force us East coast guys to stay up late and tire. But that isn't a CATCH that can be corrected by MDC. ;)

Walla reminds me of the old lady at my condo who runs down from her place and shouts at you if you're still at the pool one minute after pool hours end.

He has no real complaint here. He just wants to see if he can rile people up.

Like, did you spend *any* time planning for this?

A better analagy might be that he is endowed with 13 inches and complains that his pants have to be let out in front.

I would love to see an online auction offering for those of us that can't make the trip for the live events. ESPN has a decent auction product for football and if they roll out a similar product for baseball next year, maybe that is something you can utilize for satellite leagues.

I believe ESPN did have the auction site for baseball last year. The football auction site was fabulous and we had no problems there. We'll see about the possibility of satellite auction leagues this year, but it might be an option this year. We'll see.

The one problem with importing auctions from the ESPN site is that leagues have to be entered manually, unlike what we do with MDC.com, which uses player ID codes that we already use. So it's not as easy as just running the league on that site. But we'll see.

I'm in the $250 online auction this year and NFBC used cbssportsline for the 1st time. There were no problems unlike previous years.

SACK, I see that you edit your original message. There was no CATCH to be found the first time around. And yes, I love you east coast guys signing up for 9pm (eastern time) start time. :D

Tow Z West - Sometimes the shots I like to take at you don't hit my brain until after the initial post. Then, I have to reconsider whether they are going to hurt your feelings before I decide whether or not to "go for it". ;)

Actually, when I sign up for these drafts, I set the night aside. Nothing irks me more ( even in a live draft ) when some guy IN the draft is bitching and crying about it not moving fast enough. Don't know about the others, but I look forward to the drafts whether they be live or online and have no issues if anybody takes his full alloted time. If you can't invest 3-4 hours, don't register.

Additionally, with you CATCH, I need not worry. I'll never have to worry about running out the clock on a pick because I would never enter one of your leagues. My blood pressure would skyrocket too high from the badgering I'd have to take. ;)

Agreed. I usually picture a late teen or 20-something when I see the "hurry ups".

Enjoy it. Drafts only comes around so often.

Besides, I treat "hurry ups" like drivers on my ass, I'll slow down even more.

The other part of my brain is all in favor of a minute instead of a minute and a half however.

Maybe 75 seconds would be a good compromise this year.

Dan,

Thanks for adding the extra 10". The wife is wondering where I'm hiding it. ;)

I like MDC....I believe it's a quality site overall.

However, there are areas that require improvements....

1) The default ranking of players need to be updated more frequently. I know there's a search tab, but sometimes you spend a lot of time looking for a player because they're nowhere near where they should be ranked.

2) We should be allowed to enter the draft room much earlier than they allow. I don't recall exactly when they let you in, but its certainly no more than an hour and I think it's less than that. Players should be allowed to go into the draft room to adjust their rankings or queue up players whenever they need to.

3) The draft grid view locks up way too often.

4) The clock needs to be adjusted for slow drafts. The clock maxes out at an hour even though slow drafts allow 12 hours per pick. Due to this, it makes it difficult to track how long a player's been up for his pick.

5) They need to find a solution to the firewall issue that keeps players from entering the draft room while at a hotel. This is a major issue.

Again, having done numerous MDC drafts over the last year or so, though they have issues, overall it's a great site with unbelievable customer service.

Geoff and crew are ALWAYS on hand to help find solutions when there are issues and have come to my aid more than once.

It is either 15 or 20 minutes in the live draft room, I can't remember which.
