Shawn Childs Becomes Only 4-Time NFBC League Champ

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Wed Oct 07, 2009 3:34 am

Shawn Childs of Forestdale, Massachusetts became the first and only NFBC member to win a fourth league title, accomplishing that in 2009 by winning Las Vegas League 1 with 130.5 points. He has now won league titles in Las Vegas in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2009. Congratulations Shawn.

Almost more amazingly, Shawn has now finished in the Top 5 overall FOUR OF THE LAST SIX YEARS!!! That is really an impressive accomplishment. Although he hasn't won the overall title yet, Shawn has finished 3rd overall in 2004, 5th overall in 2005, 3rd overall in 2007 and 3rd overall in 2009. He ranks third in our Lifetime Standings because he also finished 102nd in 2006 and 57th in 2008. Congrats again Shawn and four Top 5 overall finishes in 6 years is one hell of an accomplishment.

Stephen Jupinka of Waldwick, New Jersey entered 2009 tied with Shawn with three NFBC league titles and he remains at three. Steve finished third in his league to earn a money finish and finished 33rd overall this year. Steve is our Lifetime Standings leader after Year Six as he has competed in the NFBC since 2004 and has finished as high as second overall and no lower than 54th overall. Steve's finishes include: 10th overall in 2004, 18th in 2005, 35th in 2006, 54th in 2007, 2nd in 2008 and 33rd in 2009.

The tag team of Andy Nolan and Chris Stephenson ranks second in our Lifetime Standings after six seasons as they also have been consistently good since 2004. They have finished as high as third overall and no lower than 52nd. Their finishes include: 18th overall in 2004, 22nd in 2005, 3rd in 2006, 31st in 2007, 52nd in 2008 and 48th in 2009.

All three teams deserve a HEARTY CONGRATS on their consistent success in the NFBC main event. That is really doing something when you can finish in the top 10-15% overall EVERY YEAR. Congrats to all of you.

Okay, Shawn, are you going with a slogan like ONE FOR THUMB in 2010?? :D Congrats and knowing you a fifth league title isn't far behind. But what about an overall title once in awhile, huh? :D See ya in Arizona next month.

This is probably as good a place to put this as anywhere, so congrats to the Top 11 overall finishers in the NFBC main event. We already cited Shawn Childs for his third place overall finish, but we also should given special mention to Kevin Schiller of Phoenix, Arizona as he finished second overall in the NFBC Main Event and seventh overall in the NFBC Online Championship. Kevin is admittedly a fantasy football player who got back into baseball with the NFBC last year and really liked the baseball format. Two years later, he's a master at baseball, a baseball fan again and an NFBC league champ who almost won it all. Kevin finished second behind Lindy in the Combined Standings for an incredible season in both the 15-team and 12-team formats.

The tag team of Win Murray and Ray Murphy also deserve a BIG congratulatory round of applause for leading the main event from May through much of August before battling Lindy down to the wire. They finished fourth overall, but it's never easy to stay at the top for 20 or so weeks. Great job guys and I think you've found the winning combination together as one team. ;)

Look at our celebrity figure in the Top 10 overall. James Roday Rodriguez, star of USA Network's TV show Psych, won his first league title and finished seventh overall. He said he is now a certified fantasy geek as he drafted live in Las Vegas for baseball and football, but he's now a league champion geek. Congrats James.

Here's a look at the Top 11 overall from 2009's main event:

Shawn is the master and deserves all the praise and congrats that have been showered on him in previous threads and that will be here. The few days I was ahead of him in September were very gratifying indeed. Congrats on another great season!

Congrats to all of those mentioned above but especially Lindy who had the dream baseball season. Who really thought an individual would finish first in bothe the main event and online competitions.

Looking forward to meeting old and making new friends next month here in Phoenix. Greg, also can't wait to see your plans for baseball next season.

Congrats to Lindy for winning EVERYTHING. Since this is a Shawn Childs thread, congrats Shawn on another great season. If you're reading this thread, skip the next paragraph and just go to paragraph 3.

On a very important side note, my all-time current record for going head to head against Shawn Childs in the NFBC Online Championships is 1-0. That's u-n-d-e-f-e-a-t-e-d.

Once again, Shawn, congratulations on being a 4-time NFBC Main Event League Champion- truly impressive. And to all the top 11 guys, congrats on a great season.

I just noticed that Shawn Childs also won his second $1,300 AL Auction League title in Las Vegas, holding off Will Tyrer by 1/2 a point. Shawn now has two $1300 AL Auction league titles, one behind his good buddy Eddie Gillis, who has won three of these $1300 AL Auction League titles (one in NY)!! Let the rivalry continue!! :D

Congrats Shawn. Another great season.

By the way Greg, you also missed that Shawn won the aptly named Shawn Childs League. As I told you yesterday Shawn, you just make this game look too dang easy. Congratulations again.

In this year of exceptional performances, I'm glad that you brought up the overall play of Steve Jupinka and the Chris Stephenson/Andrew Nolan tandem. These guys consistently play 'above the rim' year after year. Very impressive, I tip my cap.

Andy, Shawn, and Jupinka might not be the top 3 players here, but you sure would have a hard time arguing against it. I only know Shawn and Andy but both are great guys. Not from the RKulaski school of every post reminds you that I am having a good year either directly or just a subtle hint.

Seriously. Can we give Shawn Childs some sort of title belt (maybe Floyd Mayweather has an extra laying around).

Truly the best pound for pound fantasy baseball player alive.

I think there are quite a few de facto experts in these leagues who could compete in any league, and yet Shawn dominates every season in all formats. Just amazing.

Kudos to you Bossman. You inspire all of us. I'm just glad I've never had to face him in a league. (Keep it that way Ambrosious......)

Be proud my man. Just sick awesome.

Congrats,

Lopi

btw I have Childs as a 4-1 favorite to cash in his first overall in 2010.
