The Book was alright. The attempt to make a movie was suspect. The year the movie was shot, a HQ part time writer was picked to play the part of Sam Walker. Lets see Tout Wars and Baseball HQ that could be a problem. As that year finished up Sam Walker wins the league. Go figure the odds.
Sam Walker book turned to movie and Sam Walker wins the league. Hey I'm just saying??? I think Sam Walker finished last this year....was this a setup too?

Fantasyland
Very entertaining book, really captures the way the fantasy games capture you and chronicles the origins of the games and the evolution of statistical analysis ... but it presents what is essentially a 12-man invitational as being a "national championship". It's a serious competition ... of course. But the real "national (heck, international!) championship" , and as well, "high stakes" contests have been played at NFBC since 2004 and thru what was formerly CDM since 1993.
Fantasyland
I just started and its not bad but I have to say any fantasy game without cash on the line is like having pizza with milk or playing poker for candy.
Then I get into the mid 30's pages and the guy is hiring an assistant!!!! Come on now.

Fantasyland
no interest in reading it. sounds like science fiction
Fantasyland
The reading of Sam Walker's "Fantasyland" is a "must" for anybody who loves the challenge of assembling a fantasy baseball team. It is funny, insightful, and full of anecdotes that fantasy GM's will love......Michael Lewis' "Moneyball" is also very good....it details the revamping of the Oakland A's system based on the undervalued on-base-percentage statistic.....Fantasy players will love both of these books.......

That Moneyball is about OBP seems like something the media made up and ran with. That is a small part of it. The book is about exploiting market inefficiency if you want to put it in a few words.

I am now about 50 pages into Fantasyland and Walker just hired a second assistant at $1,200 per month. His first assistant got $1500 per month. That is $2700 per month and he is still in January. That truly is fantasyland. I see that Walker finished dead last this past year...maybe his budget was down.
