They should be very close in value. Youk 3b-elig helps his case, but Lee has played more games in each of the last 3 seasons. Youk slightly younger and plays for a stronger lineup, but Lee bats in a better lineup slot.

I saw Hanson (yes, I am a big fan, but he will not be on my team this year as I never pick pitchers that early) pitch three times last year and except for sometimes tipping his pitches (has a tendancy to hook his wrist in his wind-up when throwing the breaking stuff) and thought his motion was very fluid, the angle on the arm not too extreme, and it did not look like he was putting any extra stress on the elbow.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

[/QUOTE]Youk and Lee are pretty close in my rankings. I'd say the difference between them heading into this year is Lee's 2008 and 2009 aren't distant memories yet to most owners while Youk has been consistently good the last couple of yrs. Perception is a big part of it, but, based on 2009 alone, they are pretty similar. Maybe some are scared off from Lee's neck issues too from last summer.

Johan... yes, the mets medical staff has a bad rep and rightfully so but that is not enough to scare me away from him because of the nature of the injury and resulting surgery. By mid and late March, so much more will be known about Santana that he won't really be a wildcard anymore.

Hey Mr. Blackwell (I mean Norman):

Unless you finished in the top 10 overall last year, he did better than you. And I'm sure you couldn't carry his jock when it comes to sportsmanship.

Hope you finish out of the money in whatever league you are in this year.

If you and Rich are friends and you are just playin', my apologies. If not, . . . .

Just 2 yrs ago, Lester had beaten cancer and was being drafted around rd 20 (if memory is correct). Johan was a first rounder. Now here in the present, Lester is actually being drafted before him. Always interesting to look back.

richard- on santana- i think you were talking about where he was being drafted, not where you would draft him. that seems like a common mistake on the boards. the question-why is so and so being drafted where he is? really means that someone wouldn't take him there. i was just answering the question. there is a "risk premium" and a "young, gonna be a stud premuim" and a "he is 35 and is gonna regress" discount. i am sure bobby abreau is the answer to the question "who is the only player to outperform his draft spot every year since the inception of the nfbc?". when we disagree- we act. but to repeat- the answer to the question "why is santana getting drafted where he is? is; in my opinion, people don't think he was healthy last year and will not believe he is healthy this year- until about july. until omar is gone i won't believe the mets. there is a spot i would draft johann. that spot is different for everyone. as for doughboys- i think he is exhausted by the time he drafts. 50 satelites, drunk in st louis, filled with the best stuuffed pizza in the world on friday before the draft. it will test all his powers. btw- that "doughboys" might mean something else come sunday after the draft.

Headhunters, As a Mets fan, I would like to address your posting. Minaya is not the problem on the Mets, but rather the symptom. The team lacks complete organizational competence...which includes hiring of upper management and organizational philosphy. Until the Wilpons sell the team, the Mets will never have those two things.

Here is what I would do:

1. Take Jeff Wilpon and put him out to pasture with Hank Steinbrenner

2. Hire a business person to run the entire organization

3. Have the business person blow up the whole organization from scouting, to public relations, to player development, medical etc and hire guys NOT based upon who they know...but on ability to conceptualize a successful 10 year plan, a plan that at some level incorporates statistical analysis

Once that is done then the Mets have a chance...until then, they will forever be plugging in 70 million dollar outfielders who are on downside of career and will play their least productive years in Mets uniform. Forever reacting rather then acting.

but Lee bats in a better lineup slot.I agree with everything you said but this. They both batted in the 3 and 4 slot last year respectively. Both should bat in the same slots this year.
