Fantasy Triathalon
Just wanted to float an idea that I ran by Greg and Tom. They very much like the concept and if we can get 12-14 owners we can possibly start it in 2010. The contest would be an Fantasy Triathalon, running for the entire year, comprised of baseball, football and basketball. My other thought if we couldnt get enough interest because of the basketball element would be to have a Fantasy Ironman Competition, which would be comprised of Baseball Draft, Baseball Auction, Football Draft and Football Auction. I've spoken with a few owners that are definitely interested so if anyone is interested in a concept like this please add your name to the list. If enough people are interested we can explore this further with Greg and Tom (and Ryan). Thanks.

Kevin, just take on a Dick Vitale like consultant for basketball!! Shawn had the same reservations as you. With such a smaller talent pool basketball is by far the easiest to pick up.

Jeff, I run a local league that has 12 teams, and uses all 4 sports (baseball, basketball, hockey and football). With ours, it was one gigantic draft with all 4, drafted before the start of the NFL season. Awesome league, one of the most fun i've been in quite some time. Depending on the cost, I may be interested in your idea.

Are you guys talking 3 more leagues, or just that you take everyone's best overall team in the three sports and average them out? Either way I'd do it.

When I talked to Jeff, I told him I didn't want to do more leagues. I threw this idea by him:
If we had say 12 owners to start, we all could enter the same league for an online baseball, online football, and online basketball championship league for $350 each. Each team would be competing to win the overall prize. We then would have to decide on how much extra to pay for the overall prize.
Let's say we throw in $1000 each plus the league entry fees. We could use $1500 for each league and $7500 for the overall prize. This doesn't include any percentage for running it. I think the excitement for something like this would be lost if we lost 20% of the $12,000 to start.
Using round numbers:
For each league: 1st $700, 2nd $450, 3rd $350 plus you would win the normal prize from each league -$1300 and $650.
If you win one league, you win your total entry fee back of $2050. By paying third, there will be three teams that will recover their entry fees for each league.
To determine the winner, you could do it two ways. You could give each team points for a position. 1st 12 points, 2nd 11 points, and so on or you could use actual league points. Actual league points might keep more teams alive. I'm not sure.
The overll prizes might look like this with 12 teams:
1st: $4000
2nd: $2000
3rd: $1000
4th: $500
If some how 24 were interested:
1st: $7500
2nd: $4000
3nd: $2500
4th: $1000
This is Jeff Dobies idea, but those are my thoughts. I don't play fantasy basketball, but something like this might make me learn the game.

After thinking about the overall, I think it works best with actual league points.
I don't know how many players Greg has right now playing three sports, but I would think it is in the 36 range. If Greg and Ryan developed the game and we need combined standings for each sport and total points overall for three sports, I could see paying the normal percentage. For a single league of 12 players, it doesn't make much sense. The totals can be easily added by hand.
It might be an easy sell to get 48 players that might already do two sports. I would be a game within a game.

Thanks Billy. Hopefully with Greg/Tom/Ryan's input we can figure something out to get this concept off the ground.
