Firsts, A little history lesson......

Firsts in baseball....

The first baseball uniform was worn in 1849.

To put that in perspective, the California gold rush was in 1849.

In 1876 the first professional baseball League was formed.

Perspective?

Later that year, Custer and his men were slaughtered at Little Big Horn.

In 1885, the Chicago White Sox "invent" spring training. They take the team to a warmer climate during the spring to allow for more practice.

The place?

The baseball hot bed of Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Wee Willie Keeler had the longest hitting streak in baseball (44 games) before Joe Dimaggio's 56 games topped it. Willie Keeler stood 5' 4" and weighed 140 pounds.

Perspective?

Juan Pierre is 5' 10" and weighs 190 pounds.

Rogers Hornsby hit .400 from 1921 to 1925

Perspective?

I got nothing, that's incredible

Babe Ruth hit more home runs in 1920 than every other TEAM in the American League....

And then did it again seven years later in 1927.

Lou Gehrig never played another game after his streak.

Do you have a friend that is ultra sensative to insults or quick to fight?

Mickey Mantle was amazed at how touchy Billy Martin was. Constantly breaking up fights for his friend. It lead Mantle to this classic line," Billy can hear someone giving him the finger".

Pedro Martinez went 40 consecutive innings in 1999 with at least one strike out, breaking the old record.

The record was held by Pedro Martinez in the same year.

A pitcher who is being taken in most slo drafts around the 20th round is 33-14 over the last two years. An incredible .700 percentage.

Who is the pitcher? Think about it, the answer will be here shortly.

Hanley Ramirez and Brandon Phillips have gone 20-20 three years in a row. The only two players to have done that. Seven others have done it two of the last three years.

Did you know that only one 3b has done it during the last two years?

Not ARod

Not Wright

If you said Mark Reynolds, give yourself an "attaboy"

So what pitcher being taken around the 20th round has more wins over the last two years than most pitchers in baseball?

Joe Saunders
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
