ADP - NINTH Round

Post by Gekko » Thu Feb 11, 2010 6:41 am

121 Matt Garza

122 Denard Span

123 Juan Pierre

124 Carlos Marmol

125 Brandon Webb

126 Elvis Andrus

127 Francisco Cordero

128 Miguel Montero

129 Michael Cuddyer (1B)

130 Jair Jurrjens

131 Brian Fuentes

132 Stephen Drew

133 Russell Martin

134 James Shields

135 Nyjer Morgan

LIKE:

Obviously if Brandon Webb is throwing fine in spring training, he moves from 9th round to at least 7th round OVERNIGHT.

Miguel Montero could be the next breakout catcher...someone you will be taking in the 3rd round next year. Lefty power hitter with good contact skills. Arizona is trying to kick Snyder to the curb because they know Montero is the real deal. With the Dbacks lineup improved for 2010, Montero has 20+hr, 80+rbi, .290+ avg in his sights.

DISLIKE:

Even though Brian Fuentes might throw up 40 saves this year, for the Angels to bring in Rodney, it throws up a flag to me. Also, Fuentes couldn't strike me out the 2nd half of last year.

I don't disagree with any of these choices Mark.

I'll add Juan Pierre to the dislike list - I think there is just enough concern about him getting full-time AB's come draft day that he'll slip behind the other rabbits.

Without trying to kill a team by misdrafting positions or categories and using one player from each of Gekko's adp rounds, here is my attempt at fielding the worst possible team after nine rounds:

Crawford

Sizemore

Bay

Berkman

Carpenter

Pena

Young

Kendrick

Webb

Others?

Others? My first thought is "wow, this would have been a kick-ass team a couple of years ago."

Which is very telling unto itself and could highlight what some of us consider a drafting "mistake" in drafting the name and reputation and not the expected production.

Why would Sizemore be a poor 2nd round selection? If indeed we are looking at 2010, not 2009, arent we looking at a player still in his prime, who had one outlier bad year amongst several consistent ones? Im not saying he returns to 2008 form, but if I was betting, I would say that his poor 09 was mostly due to now fixed injuries. I see him as a risk to post 5-6th round number but no lower with a possible upside of a top 5 player.

I compare and contrast that with Reyes, who is going right around Grady. There is a guy with a history of hamstring injuries. The hamstring necessitated surgery. But even more, the reports last year covered the entire leg, including calf, knee, behind the knee, thigh and hamstring. As the season progressed we got new and differing reports weekly. There is a guy who could be a top 5 player, but could just as easily return almost nothing. Same upside as Size, with much more downside IMO.

I'm not saying Sizemore would be a poor second round choice.

I am constructing a very bad team. With a different first round pick and different selections later, Sizemore could be a very good pick in the second. Same goes for all the other players INDIVIDUALLY.

I'll add Juan Pierre to the dislike list - I think there is just enough concern about him getting full-time AB's come draft day that he'll slip behind the other rabbits. Pierre should get every opportunity at 500 plus at bats as long as he stays healthy and is getting on base? Do you think he is still with the Dodgers? Personally I would put Pierre on my like list at this spot. Bourn is going 3 rounds earlier and hit just .229 two years ago. Pierre has never hit less than .276 in his career and has stolen 45 plus bases every year he was over 500 at bats.

He has wanted him for years. Ozzie was with Pierre in Florida during Florida's world series title. Ozzie going to give him about 700 AB's.

Cool. Damon is pretty bad in the OF, but Pierre isn't any better. DH for one makes sense. Probably lands in Det anyway.

ozzie is trying to remake the sox in his image. ozzie was a .250 hitter with a .260 obp; pierre is a .280 hitter with a .290 obp. ozzie loved to run and got thrown out a lot- just like pierre. ozzie is a 45 year with ads- he has to have "action". action is steals, hit and run, having thome and konerko trying to score from second on singles and getting thrown out by 60 ft ( mighty men and i have seen that more than once) pierre might bat 1st and 9th. he will get 700 abs he will attempt to steal 150 times he will steal 80 bases. ozzie will be happy.
