Gekko,

Thanks for the reply. I have heard many state that they will draft their catchers early (before rd8) and others say that they will wait as late as possible and only hope to draft a starting catcher. What say you?

Hoosier Alright, as I sit here right now, there are only 2 catchers I'd take before round 10. i wouldn't walk into the draft targeting them, but they would be my "when all else fails" option.

Who bounces back more, Josh Hamilton or Carlos Quentin?

Who breaks out more, Jay Bruce or Andrew McCutchen?

More Saves, J.J. Putz or Daniel Bard?

More SB's, Julio Borbon or Elvis Andrus?

Better season, Scott Kazmir or Ervin Santana?

Which Chris Young is more valuable?

Which Chris Young is more valuable? 1. are they my only choices?! realtive to where you can draft them (hamilton 5th and quentin 8th), i'd give slight edge to quentin)

2. again, not really fair players to choose from. mccutchen is 5th moving toward 4th round. bruce is 8th round. McCutchen already had his breakout i think. by default, i'll go bruce. his avg has to go up some this year.

3. putz or bard for saves? i'll go bard.

4. Borbon or andrus for sb? currently i have andrus with more. if i'm assured of borbon getting fulltime at bats, they will likely switch places.

5. Kazmir. santana makes a decent buy where he's going right now. trouble is during the season he may be going under the knife

6. I'll go with Chris Young the hitter. just needs to get a little luckier with BABIP

Hey Mark,

Thanks for the chat today. I'm home sick with the stomach flu, so I haven't gotten off my couch much except for trips to bathroom. Anyways at least I have gotten some fantasy baseball prep time into today.

Can marmol become a reliable closer for the Cubs this year?

Can Alexei bounce back after a medicore sophmore season?

How many bases does pujols steal this year..can he top the 16 from last season???

GG,

A few mixed auction questions for you:

1) What is the hitting/pitching split that you look for?

2) What is the least that you would spend on pitching? Do you believe in a studs and scrubs type auction strategy?

3) Do you go into an auction with a few guys that you will get no matter what or do you have a backup plan for those guys?

Thanks, Matt. Hope you are feeling better. My daughter just had a 103 degree fever. Yuck. Thankfully it passed in time for the to visit family this weekend.

i doubt it. just walks too many hitters. for a 9th round closer, i'm selling. look to acquire later.

mark

how do you feel about Yovani this year? i've seen a lot of mixed opinions regarding him.

i think he's capable of 15, 3.30, 1.22, 200+

what do you think?

GG,

Aside from catcher, what is the shallowest fantasy position this year?

alexei is one player that i really don't have a clue what's in store for this season. is he a power hitter, isn't he? i read that he was under orders to start taking more pitches per at bat (which he did do), but may have lead to a less agressive approach.

i'll probably go conservative with my projections.

kevin, isn't it?

assuming i got your name right...i'm assessing that exact question this month. i won't know until i get all my projections done and run my auction values, but i can tell you with 100% certainity, i feel i can win with a 50/50 split or a 70/30 split.

i like some of the backend pitchers i've been digging up, you know the $1 or $2 kind so if i choose to roster 3 of them, my hitting will be toward the 70%.

i can't stress this enough, there are many ways to win the 100K or any individual league. it all comes down to having a feasible plan and executing. the childs 75-75 plan is one. i personally don't care for it and have never knowingly used it. i like to go a different route.

and for those of you not doing any pay league before the main, i feel bad for you. you won't be put in the position of having to make a decision until YOU HAVE ONE MINUTE ON THE CLOCK. most people stumble when pressure is applied.

i believe in being flexible. i will have my custom values in hand and know how much each player is worth and how much i'll spend on them.

if the studs are going for more money than i allotted, there is a good chance i won't be getting any studs. however if they are going 10% cheaper than i budgeted for, i might get two of them.

key is to be flexible and not totally locked in on specific players.
