I figured that people didn't like these posts, but here is my team from last week's satellite. My own self assessment. I went pitcher heavy early which I wanted. I expect to do well in ERA, WHIP, K, and BAvg (despite Dunn). Always take an NL pitcher over an AL pitcher and expect a little extra froma left-handed Yankee bat (see N. Johnson). Liriano can't kill me two years in a row (well probably). Lots of question marks, of course. Fewer if Laird hurts himself in a spring training drunken brawl. However, the back end of the draft is typically something that gets released to pick up free agents anyways. Easier to take a few chances at the back end in mid-February when roles are yet to be determined.

Abreu at 6.14, were they asleep at the wheel?

With Shin Soo Choo gone in the mid 2nd round, you might say some were asleep.

I was in that draft last week as well. Choo has an outside chance to produce 2nd round value, but there was no reason to take him in round 2. The guy that took Choo didn't take a SP until round 14.

Abreu is an interesting player. His strong all-around skill-set says that he will probably decline slowly, but can you expect 30 steals again? He could be a great value there, but I just don't want to be caught owning him when the music stops.

I was in that draft too. Chart and Eli made some nice picks. Ash made a nice donation and was rude in the chatroom to boot, telling people to shutup and pick.

Good luck Nate and Eli.

Until they test for HGH, it's impossible to predict when a guy will start to decline.

-Craig after reviewing ash's team, he may want to pay a bit more attention to the draft. whats the obsession with 1b?? especially since clement will also qualify. papelbon and wainwright and a prayer. i agree seb looks like a donation. just calling it as i see it. ;)

If you decide to take the stance that you NEED Choo, fair enough if you really like him, but you take him in 4th or if you're really paranoid late in the 3rd. To take him in the second is delusional.

[/QUOTE]ash's SP is bad but what was he thinking with that 14th rd pick (even IF he was catcher eligible, which he is not).

I always feel like Abreu's poor steals could be 15, but I try to protect against one guy's poor season (or injury) by having guys that are balanced across the board. Having someone like Reyes go down (as the major source of team speed) moves someone from feeling like a top 5 finish in steals to a bottom 5 finish. I would be happy with 0.285 90R, 16 HR, 90 RBI, 20 SB from Abreu. The next 5 OFs taken were: Hamilton, Quentin, Hunter, Bourn, and Ibanez.

For me this draft kinda fell apart at rd 12/13/14.

Kelly Johnson - DeRosa - Kouzmanoff. I think if you went back and looked at the Pitchers you passed on before tabbing Harden in 15 you might think twice about these picks. I think DeRosa and Kouz back to back both stick out to me since you already had a quality 3B and a better guy in Cuddyer to stick at CI if you wanted. I would rather see another SP here or maybe better OF's than Cameron and Dejesus. Maybe even an upgrade from Ruiz a C.

I like the Valbuena pick at 22 - but hate the Uribe pick at 23. He's your backup to your backups at 2b/ss/3b so he's basically useless to you unless major injuries strike. Wished you'd have grabbed an SP there as well. I like your collection of young arms but I wouldn't want to be forced to rely on any of them too much.

You can make this team work - because you have a decent core. Don't be afraid to act quickly to shore up that pitching staff. I would try to identify which players you can cut for the first FAAB period and grab some more pitching. My two top candidates to go would be Uribe (sorry I know you spent a decent pick on him) and Carrasco (if he doesn't get a job in the rotation - which I don't think he will). Good luck with the season.

Why so down on Uribe if he gets at bats he can mash.

Isnt Freddy Sanchez hurt and wont be ready for the start of the season. If thats true Uribe will be playing, look at his 2nd half numbers.

249 at bats

293 bavg

14 homers with 40 rbi's.

It is the 23rd round i would give him a chance.

I do agree with you about taking some starting pitching over Kouzmanoff and Derosa.

Just because he needed pitching there more than he needed another MI or CI - not so much because I'm down on Uribe. When he chose him - he had his MI/CI filled and backed up. He could hang on to Uribe - but will he play him in this lineup. I guess he could help with the new FRI rule - so actually I see his added value. So then he has to decide which arm he is willing to cut bait on.

If he believes in Hochevar, Gio G and Cecil then he probably wants to hold them a bit. If he likes his two closer's in waiting then he holds them for awhile. If he's going to make a move in the first FAAB period - who should he be prepared to cut. I say first candidate Carrasco.

Which if I'm correct is actually Augie Ojeda, but a right handed batter in any case. That could confuse anyone :D

At first blush, I like Chart's team the best. Catcher is an easy position to pick up a hot player off the waiver wire.. Good balance of offense and pitching. OF could be better o/c but who doesn't have an issue somewhere?
