Looking At All Free Agents This Week

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Apr 01, 2010 5:25 am

Here's a quick note about the available free agents this week: In the past, we asked STATS to pull out all minor-leaguers as they were cut and at times we still missed the last cuts before Sunday's cuts. Our goal was always to protect the minor-leaguers who hadn't been drafted in each league.

This year, with drafts being held just one week before Opening Day and with rosters still being finalized today, it's tough to treat the first free agent wire the same way. All players are in this week's free agent pool just like they were available on Draft Day last weekend, so get 'em while they're hot.

On Monday, we'll get the complete 25-man rosters from STATS for each MLB team and can keep minor-leaguers out of the free agent pool then. That will continue throughout the season until they get called up to the majors for the first time. Then they are free to be bid on by anyone in your league.

Thanks for understanding and good luck.

Is this true for satellite leagues as well? Yes, go to town this first week. The cuts are still happening and with Easter weekend it makes it tough to get all the cuts done before folks leave for the holiday weekend. After Monday, all minor-leaguers who were not originally drafted or picked up via FAAB will be unavailable until they are called up to the majors.

This might be one of those times when a Fanball/NFBC e-mail blast would be in order.

I love this! (especially for the drafts that took place a while back and I thought were locked.)

It just may be to some weird advantage for the message board folks to know this, but the others not to.

Not that that would bother me.

Thanks for understanding and good luck. Gregg: There a fair number of players (particularly relievers) that are certain to be on the ML rosters that are not on the FA pages (and not on anyone's team either). Will this be fixed by Sunday? There are actually a few players I want to bid on that don't appear on the FA page. Thanks.

Glad the rest is working better. We're getting closer.
