Well, I'm sure all Francisco and Gonzalez owners love this. I happen to be one of them. So, now what...is it even possible to win the whole thing with one closer? Pretty sad considering one player for one category becomes the end all and be all. Especially, when that means kicking the bucket in week one for the season. I've had about enough of closers and saves in fantasy baseball.
Or, instead of using one closer, should I just boot saves completely? Or, would that make chances even less then?

You can't punt a category and win the overall, though you could win your league (albeit it's very tough and usually best accomplished with that strategy predraft).
Good luck!

Both Gonzalez and Francisco will keep their jobs.. they might get a break, but unless health issues are causing the ineffectiveness, they won't be replaced just yet

Some absurdly killer number of saves come from backups and the backups of the backups each season. Focus in on the guys failing and grab their backups. Keep a close eye on your leagues "drops"...as very many future closers get dropped in the first couple weeks/months.

People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.

See you later Francisco..
Manager Ron Washington told the Dallas Morning news to "stay tuned" to the situation and that he and pitching coach Mike Maddux would be exploring their options with regard to the closer role. That doesn't mean that you should drop Francisco straight away, but it is something to watch. Neftali Feliz would seem to be the choice to replace Francisco, but if the Rangers don't feel he's ready--a possibility given that he hasn't pitched on consecutive days in the majors--Darren O'Day could get his chance at the end of games.

I had Francisco last year, and suffered through many a 9th inning adventure. He is awful...I give him two weeks before Neftali is closing for Texas. I avoided Francisco like the plague this year...

4/11 11:53 am: Updating an earlier item, Rangers closer Frank Francisco appears to have lost his job, according to Evan P. Grant of the Dallas Morning News. Neftali Feliz will "temporarily" assume the team's stopper duties
Has a closer EVER lost their job this early inthe season not due to injury???
No doubt about it....Francisco DOES suck!

Even with the bad news, we're probably one of the few teams that left him in our lineup this week hoping he could still pick up a save or vulture a win.
Nice reward on Monday to see him get that W. Sending a fruit basket to Nelson Cruz today.

Going back to that first year he was with the Mariners, Sasaki "lost" his closer job very early into the season. Within a week and two quality innings Sweet Lou had him right back in the role. Don't remember if he led the AL in saves or not, but if not he was pretty darn close, with good decimals and decent K's.
