Any ideas of how high he will go in the FA bidding this week?

If he goes for under $900, people aren't trying.

I think the career numbers speak for themselves:

386 Atbats

.290 avg

12 HR

this kid does make contact/hit for avg but he has not developed any power. He is only 2 years out of college and dont expect him to be the next power hitting 1B. Will take a while to develop.

I wouldnt bet the boat on him and dont think for a second that Texas dosent want to bring Davis back up once he starts hitting again. C.Davis has a MUCH MUCH better glove than smoak.

davis is a shitt bag. they started the clock on smoak. he is real deal. if he played half is games in SD, i'd be hesitant. however, haf his games will be IN TEXAS. it's almost summertime!!!! get the HR parade ready.

those that won him, didn't really win now did they? ;)

w/ all that said having B. Wood & Eric Chavez as my CI options means the rockit will be Smoaking too!

I'm guessing anywhere from $300-$800.....have fun figuring out what you need to bid to win him in your league.

[/QUOTE]With guess-timates this high, should be an interesting FAAB.....

I can't wait to see how many blow their entire budget on a "can't miss" prospect.....

I'm with the last post ... this "sure thing" was VERY so-so in the minors (and College, for that matter). OK, he's got a great eye, and hits from both sides of the plate etc.

Do yourself a big favor before you lock that waiver bid. Go and actually LOOK at his complete minor league record going back to college. I do not for the life of me see what all the fuss is about. There'll be at least 1/2 a dozen other quality 1B called up this year that will do MORE than Smoak. Take it to the bank. And they'll do it in less time.

Which is a long way of saying I neither need him, nor will get him.

Bye bye FAAB budgets!

smoak is a 23 year old 6'4" 220lb switch hitter playing HALF HIS GAMES IN TEXAS!!! 20hr pace is floor in my book. 25-30hr pace reasonable with a .300 batting avg.

8 xbh in 50 AAA at bats so far. coupled with his FANTASTIC BATTING EYE...16bb AND ONLY 8K AND HE COULD BE THE GUY TO FAR EXCEED ANYONES EXPECTATIONS.

Playing in Texas seals the deal for me.

Don't forget about Ike Ike Baby either. He may just command more than Smoak.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. I'm guessing that in over 1/2 the Main Events that one of the two will fetch >$500.

Smoak is hitless in 3 games on the homestand! I bet we see Garko in there on monday. Chris Davis also hit a HR in his first AAA game. Davis is gonna heat up and do what he did 2nd half 2009. Dont listen to Gekko, this kid needs more minor league time. That is a fact.

Davis back up by mid May at the longest for good.

this will keep smoak's bid prices more than reasonable. $500 gets him. $400 might. $300 doubtful.

Gekko it appears to me that your an Ike Davis fan and trying to pump up useless bids on Smoak. Good work but we all know that it's almost impossible to go all year with such a small kitty left. a injury or just hot players will not be yours all year long so you can get the hot prospect with no experience already failing. I just cant buy your propaganda.

5-4-3 - Ike's winning bids will be very similar.

"eventually" is your key word. He needs more time in minors. Davis is down in AAA to fix his swing and Smoak is gaining a little experience but going back down when Davis improves and then Smoak starts next year and Davis will have more value for a Texas trade.

If someone bids $600-$1000...that's just foolish.

give me Tatis, or Garko for a buck

I am also a team with Davis on it :(
