Who Is Leading The NFBC Double Play Championship?

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Apr 27, 2010 2:54 am

Okay, I've started threads for the other national championships to show who is leading at the early points of the season, but I haven't done that yet for the NFBC Double Play. I gave that a few weeks to play out before posting all of the leaders, but it's time to display some names now.

Through three weeks of both competitions -- Live and Online -- we've had many different leaders. I'll try to post names after this post. But as of April 27, Paul Spradling leads the way in both contests and has a shot at the $85,000 in grand prizes. Paul was drafting from the No. 1 spot in the March 19th Live Double Play that I ran in Las Vegas with St. Louis participants and he's No. 1 in both contests now. Good job Paul.

I'll keep an open thread on the different leaders here and will highlight them each time we get a new one. Congrats to Paul right now, but as we all know we have a looooooooooooooooong ways to go. Good luck all in both contests.

I apologize if I've missed any of the early leaders in either of the Double Play contests, but I'll post all of those that I know here and let me know if I missed you. The early overall leaders in the Double Play Live or Online so far included:

Paul Spradling

Michael Camporeale

Eddy Betancourt

Bryan Vogel

Emmett Ruland

Chris Poulson

Donald Haworth

Tytus Parsons

Good luck to everyone the rest of the way in both of these contests.

I must have jinxed Paul Spradling yesterday!! Sorry Paul.

Paul continues to lead the Live Double Play, but we have a new leader today in the Online Double Play. Congrats to Carl Borgatti, who is king of the hill for a day. Carl becomes our ninth new overall leader in the Online Double Play through 4+ weeks of action. Here's the list of overall leaders to this point:

Paul Spradling

Michael Camporeale

Eddy Betancourt

Bryan Vogel

Emmett Ruland

Chris Poulson

Donald Haworth

Tytus Parsons

Carl Borgatti

Good job all and good luck to all the rest of the way.

I thought this was interesting if you look at the Live and Online Double Play overall standings today:

** Paul Spradling is leading the Live Double Play contest with his team from Las Vegas, 9 points ahead of Carl Borgatti's New York Live Double Play team.

But in the Online Double Play standings with those same two teams, Carl Borgatti is ahead of Spradling by 59 points. Same two teams, different results. Obviously because each category is worth 828 points in the Online DP, it's easy for that to happen, but it's still interesting nonetheless.

We have our 10th new leader in the NFBC Double Play as Bill Strickler has taken the lead in the Double Play Online portion of the event. It's interesting to note that Bill won our NFFC Primetime event in 2009 -- the 12-team version of our football live draft -- as he took home the $40,000 check. Now Bill is trying to be our first football-baseball national champion.

Bill is feature prominently and he looks very jovial in our next issue of Fantasy Sports Magazine, which hits newsstands on June 8. This is the football version of our High-Stakes magazine and it features 40+ of our NFFC veterans. This really is a great, great issue as we featured even more of our players than we did in the baseball version. Check it out.

Good job Bill and keep it going. Bill had so much fun in St. Louis that he's lobbying us to do football there as well. We'll see what we can do Bill, but for now keep the hands on the wheel of this NFBC juggernaut. You're headed in the right direction!!

Here's the list of Double Play leaders since the start of the season:

Let's give a shout out to Tom Zarogiannos, who has a Live Double Play and an Online Double Play in the Top 5 overall standings. Tom Z has teams in fourth and fifth place overall, a mighty nice Double Play in itself. Good job Tom. He's also 19th overall in the main event, so he's setting himself up for the possible Lindy!! :D Keep it going Tom and good luck the rest of the way.

Tom - Now they know who you are! He-he

Great job pal, keep up the great work. Don't worry, if you pull off the Triple Lindy, I'll still pick up the tab next year. Why break tradition. ;)

Carl Borgatti has held onto the Double Play overall standings lead for much of June and he still has a solid lead today. Carl is a veteran NFBC owner who did several Slow Drafts this off-season in preparation for the upcoming season and so far his hard work is paying off.

But it's also interesting to note that the five owners right under him in today's overall standings are all first-time NFBC players. Several of them came from Fanball, CDM or FFOC contests, but all of them are having great debut seasons in this 12-team format. Congrats to Adam Esmay, Ryan Struve, Ryan Atkins, Matthew Shepherd and John Uganski for great debuts.

Here's a look at the overall Double Play standings through today with teams 2 through 6 overall all first-time NFBC owners:

1. Mr. Cee's Crew Carl Borgatti Live Double Play - New York March 26 10 am 3,944.5 3,298.5 7,243.0

2. Buck Farack Adam Esmay March 29 Online Double Play 9 pm League 3,711.5 3,367.5 7,079.0

3. Pearls Before Swine 6 Ryan Struve April 3 Online Double Play 8 pm League 2 3,346.5 3,642.0 6,988.5

4. Vegas Vandals Ryan Atkins Live Double Play - Las Vegas March 26 5 pm 3,303.5 3,432.0 6,735.5

5. Team Shepherd Matthew Shepherd April 4 Online Double Play 1 pm League 2,807.5 3,794.5 6,602.0

6. Ug's Studs John Uganski Live Double Play - Las Vegas March 20 4 pm League 2 3,078.5 3,494.5 6,573.0

We have another new leader in the Double Play overall championship as Adam Esmay of Fresno, California has jumped into first place after a big night last night. Adam is a first-year NFBC member who jumped into two Online leagues and a $325 Slow Draft and his hard work is finally paying off. Adam was a CDM/Fanball/FFOC customer in the past who is having a great debut season in the NFBC.

Adam becomes our 11th overall leader in this contest. Here's a look at the teams who have held the lead in the Double Play Overall championship at least once during the first three months of the season:

Paul Spradling

Michael Camporeale

Eddy Betancourt

Bryan Vogel

Emmett Ruland

Chris Poulson

Donald Haworth

Tytus Parsons

Carl Borgatti

We now have our 12th new owner who has taken the overall lead in the NFBC Double Play. Ryan Struve of Alexandria, Virgina is a new member to the NFBC this year and he's ALL IN on the Double Play. He took multiple teams and has his April 3rd team first overall. He has another team 57th overall. Congrats Ryan and best of luck to you and everyone else down the stretch. The Double Play has been a lot of fun to watch this year and hopefully the tight race for the $60,000 and $25,000 grand prizes continue.

Here's a look at the owners who have led this race at some point this year:

Paul Spradling

Michael Camporeale

Eddy Betancourt

Bryan Vogel

Emmett Ruland

Chris Poulson

Donald Haworth

Tytus Parsons

Carl Borgatti

Bill Strickler

Adam Esmay

Ryan Struve

Now, more importantly, who will finish the season on top?

I have to give a shout out to Sack & Chip, the Magner tag team that is currently leading the Live Double Play. Ryan Struve still leads the Online Double Play, but give it to Sack & Chip for jumping into the lead in the Live Double Play. Kenny finished second in the Online Championship last year when Lindy passed him for the $40,000 grand prize and the $75,000 double-double, but Sack is back at it again this year. Great job guys and best of luck to everyone during the second half of the season.

Thanks Greg, King for a Day!

I received a call this afternoon from the Champ, he caught my good fortune and wanted to give me a shout out as well.

First Overall today in the Live Double Play. but only second in my League! Can't make it up - Ryan Atkins leads our league. I told Lindy that I would

be glad to sign off on that outcome!

Appreciate the CATCH! Long way to go, as I know all to well.
