That was one sweet outing last night. One hit, 10 K's. That's 3 great starts in 3 tries. He looks like a possible difference-maker right now for teams. Who's with me on the Cecil train?

After that outing last night, I wish that I was with you on the Cecil train. I put in for him on two different teams as my 2nd choice and wound up getting my 1st choice in both cases.

I picked him up last week in a league I DESPERATELY need pitching, and got him in another this past weekend! Unfortunately, I don't have him in the Main Event, where I also need some arms.

Last week's bids from the live events:

Cecil Brett Ultimate Auction League 69.00

Cecil Brett Classic Atlantic City Weekend 1 - League 2 67.00

Cecil Brett Classic Weekend 1 Atlantic City - League 3 58.00

Cecil Brett Classic Las Vegas Weekend 2 - League 8 91.00

Cecil Brett Atlantic City March 19 4 pm Auction League 44.00

Cecil Brett Las Vegas March 26 4 pm Auction League 1 97.00

Cecil Brett Classic St. Louis Weekend 1 - League 1 38.00

Cecil Brett Classic Weekend 2 - Online League 3 56.00

Cecil Brett Classic New York Weekend 2 - League 1 65.00

Cecil Brett Diamond League 21.00

Cecil Brett Chicago March 26 4 pm Auction League 33.00

Cecil Brett Las Vegas March 26 4 pm Auction League 2 68.00

Cecil Brett Classic New York Weekend 2 - League 5 15.00

Cecil Brett Classic Chicago Weekend 2 - League 1 38.00

$15 - $97. We got him for $12 in Chicago main 2 two weekends ago, and $38 in St. Louis main last week, but bid $28 in Chicago Auction and lost to $33. If we had remained consistent with $38, we'd be 3 for 3.

We went alot cheaper in the satellites.

Started last year even better....2-0 1.8 ERA in his first 3 starts...then came his next three starts and 16 ER later he found himself in the bullpen.

so far 2-1 2.6 ERA in his first three starts. This weekend I might not wanna be a Cecil owner.

Anyway, what I discovered was that he was having issues with fatigue. He would lose velocity both throughout starts and from start to start, which is why he got progressively worse. It made sense he was having stamina issues since he was a closer in college, and I thought he'd have to convert to being a reliever.

This year he looks like a new man. Not only has he not been losing velocity throughout his starts, the one yesterday has been his best yet, velocity-wise *and* he threw progressively harder as he got further into the game. He started out with a fastball at 92, and by the end, he was hitting 94. brooksbaseball.net does a nice job of breaking this stuff down and you can see the data here:

Maybe those stamina problems will creep up later but there will probably be some kind of warning in his games leading up. He should be okay to go for this weekend.

On game broadcast the other night, the announcer said Cecil cut this finger in a kitchen accident in the spring. They only let him throw fastballs and change-ups in spring training. The upside was that he worked on his change-up enough to make it a much improved pitch this year. Maybe he is the real deal now.
