Looking For Feedback On The Double Plays

Like Wayne, I jumped on the Christmas 3 pack and have enjoyed all the leagues. Each format is unique and requires a different approach. I would play the live double again if offered.

I admit that the DP concept was confusing initially but, once I understood it, I liked the idea.

It was definitely fun having a second draft to do on that Saturday after the main event.

I actually think it's so much easier to draft a great team in a 12-team league, that it makes FAAB easier and LESS time consuming. There's no point in scanning FAAB unless you have a player or two you're willing to drop.

Big picture, I think the downside to the DP is that it will be confusing to new people who will be getting their first taste of the NFBC in 2011.

Final 2 comments:

I still think LEAGUE prizes in the DP need to be INCREASED - even if that means dropping the overall top 10 prize money.

Kind of off subject, but I liked a couple of other comments about offering a $500 live event or something in that price range for 15-team leagues. (there seems to be a lot of us who like 15-team format much better than 12 teams). I travel from Nashville to Chicago for the weekend to draft in the main event on Saturday. I'd love to do a live draft on Friday, then the main and another event on Saturday, maybe even another on Sunday. BUT that will only be possible if there are some other live draft leagues that are in the $300-$500 range. I know this is high stakes but I can't afford to do 3 to 4 live drafts that weekend (which would make for a GREAT TIME) if each league 's entry fee is between $1000-$1300.

I am a fan of the 12 teamers and would again do the Xmas 3pack. I would prefer the auction to be a 12 team event rather than a 15 teamer as the live auction just takes way too long...you can ask Ryan Houston about his experience as an auctioneer.

I think the live double play option is great. This is my first year in the league and myself and a friend got in because of the double play. I think it had to add some new players to your leagues. Drafting live is much more fun and is the only way I play fantasy sports. My friend and I had a blast at the live double play in St. Louis and enjoy the league and look forward to it next year.

The diversity of these thoughts is very, very interesting. Keep 'em coming. If we want to continue growing with new members, I think an affordable live event option makes sense and 12 teams likely makes the most sense. But whether that means the same format as last year or not is the question. Keep telling me what you think and by October we'll have the plan in place.

Here's a question - if we continue with the 12-team draft with a $500 entry fee would people take part if it was part of its own separate event or is the connection to the online event what makes it enticing?

What about a simple 12-team, $500 Entry Fee. Can be drafted either Live or Online. Obviously those drafting online are fitting the bill a little bit for the live events, but with 1000 teams, I almost see that as negligible. A 1-2 payout of 2000-1000, with all the rest to a big 100K 12-team prize. Seems to have some symmetry not sure if the numbers work out that way. I am sure there would need to be a live events fee, maybe for those with online teams those fees are waived. Just a thought.

Good question Tom. If it were a 12-Team live straight up with NO connection to the online, it would not be as attractive to me. The $500 alone is not the attraction to me as a mid-range option. I think it is the tie to the Online PLUS the chance at the additional overall prize money that makes it attractive to me.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Keep the Live Double Play and keep it connected to the online.

Thanks,

Prefer the live events...12-team or 15-team doesn't matter to me as I treat them separately when it come to prep. I like having post-main event option to keep the weekend going and spreading 3 events over 3 days makes the trip to the West side of the US more fun.

I'll do the 3-pack again if offered.
