xFIP in the high 4's, going up against a team with an above average offense against lefties. seems like a no play to me but what do i know, he owned the Marlins back when Wes Helms was in the heart of the order.
whipsaw - u have your methods. i have mine. stick to yours and i'll stick to mine. it's nice to know other accomplished fantasy players like Gillis and Duke also saw moyer as a great start this week vs the marlins. i don't know how accomplished you are, but good luck moving forward. thanks.

It doesn't save your staff any, but you'd walk away feeling a little better (and smarter!) knowing you called the outcome once you saw Moyer got pushed back to face Boston!

I know this doesn't help any. I loathe the helpless feeling one gets when taking that kind of pounding. I own Johan and hollered at Manuel for an inning and a half before the bastard finally yanked him only after he gave up 10er in 3IP vs. the Phillies on that Sunday night game earlier this season. thanks for the refreshing post. you are right, gambling on the game would have been one way to hedge. unfortunately, i don't have "a guy", and i don't gamble unless i'm in vegas and even then it's rare for me to do. gambling isn't in my blood. i look for more skill-type games to invest my time/money into.

thanks again for the post.

If the NFBC allowed pitching changes on Friday, like they allow hitting changes on Friday, some of the "luck" might be removed, when weather, injuries, matchups, etc. affect a pitching strategy determined on the previous Sunday.

A good friend in our home league of 15 teams had the following four pitchers active this week:

Moyer

Shields

Blanton

Wandy Rodriguez

That has to be the worst 4 game stretch in the history of our league.
Gambling on sports is arguably the best way to take advantage of sports knowledge by investing time/money into it. Many types of wagers are natural fits for good fantasy players, of which you would obviously fit the criteria of being.

I wouldn't beat yourself up over this one too much. He was good enough for you to play over a two start Padilla week one, so he probably was good enough to start in this spot also.
