Has anyone had this problem?

Post by ESPN8 THE OCHO » Sun Aug 08, 2010 9:53 am

I was just checking out the bids of the past couple weeks and realized I missed out on a player that was a primary bid. I made my bids like this:

Player A 1dollar

Conditional B 2dollars

Conditional C 1 dollar

I was awarded my conditional player and went about business thinking the other player was claimed. He was not. I am unsure why my target player was not processed. I made a bigger bid on my conditional player because I thought I needed to in order to land him if I missed out on my primary target.

I just now went on to read the rule. It says no conditional target can have a bid higher than the primary target so in essense the player I recieved should have been void... even though I should have won my primary target.

Here is the rule:

Conditional Bids: Conditional bids can also be offered. In the event you may lose out on a player, you can place conditional bid(s) for other players during the bidding time frame. Subsequent conditional bids will become relevant only if the previous conditional bid fails. Bids do not require conditional bids. Bids may have several sequential conditional bids. Participants should note that the computer takes the HIGHEST BIDS and processes each bid in that order if you have multiple FAAB acquisition bids. Putting a larger bid on a conditional bid than a primary bid also isn't allowed

Am I reading this wrong because it has impacted my team greatly in a very negative way.

Personally I've been well aware of how this works. There was even a league message on our team pages for a few months that explained that you will be rewarded a higher big even if it's not the primary. I guess this line should be removed from the rule though:

"Putting a larger bid on a conditional bid than a primary bid also isn't allowed" You're so right. Everyone learns when they see some bids that look a bit odd. We all don't live this stuff so we learn as we go. It has been posted for some time.

Well, This could end up costing me money and with the rule as written I should have gotten my target player.

I don't know how to rectify this but obviously if this keeps me from making money it would be a huge era.

This is significant and I am concerned.

I have read thru this post:

http://nfbcboards.fanball.com/cgi-bin/u ... 004984;p=1

and still come away terribly confused.

The closest explanation was a post from Greg that states:

"I have asked the IT team to make sure we have conditional bids now ranked by dollar value, just like we have in the rules and just like we've had in the NFBC the last six years. You will not be able to rank your bids with a lesser bid first and a higher dollar value second. I just think we have enough to adjust to now as a group and this might be too big of an adjustment. So for 2010 baseball and football we will have conditional bids being in the order of dollar values and you can Move players up or down who have the same bid dollar amount ($1, for instance). I hope this helps."

In this case I should have still been awarded my primary player. I read that as if you miss out on your primary player than you conditional bids are ranked according to your bid amount rather than order.

In my scenario every player was treated as a conditional bid including my primary player bid. On top of that the rules state I am not allowed to bid more on a conditional player... what went wrong here?

posted April 03, 2010 01:29 PM Profile for Greg Ambrosius Just a heads up that the software does allow you to save a Conditional Bid at a higher dollar amount than your primary bid for a particular free agent. But the rules clearly state that bids will be processed by the highest dollar amount to lowest dollar amount. In fact, we will design the setup so that once you save your bids you will see the order of priority for your bids saves highest dollar amount to lowest dollar amount. So even if you save it with your Conditional Bid higher than your primary bid, the system will reverse the order and show you how it will be processed.

That may already be done, I'm not sure, but if not it will be processed that way and soon the system will show it this way when you save a bid.

I hope this helps you for tomorrow. Good luck all.

Thanks Rog,

It is all well and good but I didn't get to read that on the message board. I guess I foolishly used common sense that also happened to be the rules supplied by the website.

Also the adjustment to re-rank according to dollar value bid in April still has not come to fruition.

There is no solution to this problem as with many problems this year. I just hope it does not end up costing me money.
