1. Four of the five top switch hitting home run hitters, now play for the Yankees
2. Daric Barton has more walks than Albert Pujols
3. Only Jose Bautista has a better hr/ab than Jim Thome
4. Russell Branyan has knocked himself in 20 times, other Mariners, 26 times
5. Along those same woeful Mariner lines, Ichiro is averaging one run scored every 10 plate appearances. The worst in his career, he is barely in the top 100 in Runs and tied with Carlos Pena, who is hitting .212 with 58 runs scored
(ok, I cheated, that was about five things I didn't know in one sentence)
6. Rickey Weeks leads the league and will have his 600th plate appearance tonight
7. Angel Pagan is the only switch hitter hitting .300 this year
8. Only one Judy has 50 rbi this year, Scott Podsednik
9. 15 hitters have more BB's than K's. Sounds good, but it hasn't helped Castillo (.234), Co Jackson (.236), or Jimmy Rollins (.238)
10. Speaking of Rollins, before the year started, he crowed to the press that he felt 50 stolen bases was within his reach.
Yesterday, he said" I said 15! Not 50!"
Ok, I made that one up.
11. 15 of 16 straight series now that Jose Bautista has hit a home run. Infreakincredible.
12. Guess who leads the Majors in games played? Prince Fielder has played in every Brewers game this year and it isn't him.
Matt Kemp, somehow, has played in every Dodger game and leads the Majors in games played.
13. Gaby Sanchez will be ladened a potential power hitter next year, he is 4th in MLB in doubles
14. Joe Mauer still doesn't have 50 extra base hits
15. Travis Hafner and Carlos Pena are slow. Despite that, each has grounded into only one double play this year. Justin Upton has grounded into 20 double plays
16. In a much shorter time frame, Jose Tabata has more home runs, a better average and just seven stolen bases less than Austin Jackson
17. 2b is a speed position. Well, it used to be. Only Chone Figgins has more than 20 stolen bases while playing 2b.
18. Eight switch hitters have 20 stolen bases, only two have 20 home runs
19. Elvis Andrus has seen 2311 pitches this year. He has 16 extra base hits. If you are an owner watching his game, you can give yourself a half of one percent chance that he gets an extra base hit on any given pitch.
20. Last, a fantasy buddy and I were talking last night about a best inning scenario with our pitcher vs. our three hitters. Maximum seven hitters in the inning. Here is what we came up with:
First Hitter (Ours)- HBP, SB, SB
Second Hitter- K's
Third Hitter- (Ours) HBP, SB
Fourth Hitter- K's, reaches on passed ball
Fifth Hitter- reaches on error, run scores
Sixth Hitter (Ours) Grand Slam
Seventh Hitter- K
Our team comes away with .1000, 3 R's, 4 rbi, 3 sb's, 1 hr
1 IP, 3 K's, 1.000 WHIP, 0.00 E.R.A.
We could have had two passes balls on k's, but wanted to have some semblance of reality.
