Thanks Greg. I'm good to go in the $150 Slow Draft but I was actually alluding to the comment re. the $1,000 draft and the notion of drafting sooner than later. I thought I had seen a Feb 7th date for the start of the $1,000 Slow Draft, definitely happy with that date, but not too much earlier. Thanks, Greg

When the next $300-ish slow draft?
I'm also ready for the first "computer takes your best lineup at the end of the week" DC league.

-Craig Kielinski How is the computer going to determine which is worth more: a 1 save 2 SO week or a 1 win 6 strikeout week. If you were planning on punting saves how would you like it if the computer picked the save and 2 SO when it won't pull you out of last place. Which is worth more a 1 SB 2 R week or a 1 HR 3 RBI week? These questions cannot be answered which is why you will never see a computer scored league. This is also why fantasy baseball is some much more fun and complex than fantasy football because you can't simply have a computer do the thinking/scoring for you.

That would be like going to the store, buying the ingredients for a gourmet meal, hiring a chef to cook, and then taking credit for the meal to all at the table.
No thanks.

The best I can see for a DC league that offers some possible way for you to pick your best possible lineup is if everyone does it "in the dark" say Monday morning after the week is over and then the standings are run for the week. You get to pick and choose who you want to start "after the fact" but have no idea what other teams are choosing to do....
There is no way for a computer to know if you prefer the guy with 4 SB's or the guy with 4 HR. Or, for that matter, a pitcher that never pitched an inning to help you preserve your ERA/WHIP.

Pete You guys are certainly right that, for example, the computer wouldn't be able to "self-correct" if your team was bad in saves but dominating in K's. It would take a 10 K, three run non-win over a bad ERA and WHIP week for a closer who got two saves. It could only go by one of the those cross-category metrics like CDM's PPR, or calculate what lineup puts the owner highest in the standings, potentially complex because it needs to set the whole league's lineup at once with no bias or order.
The lack of control would still be kind of cool though, because everyone would be in the same boat. Just on a rare occasion in a draft champions league you end up with 6 closers by dumb luck, and you'd be pissed if the computer chose to start them all all year. Except that's not what would happen really. The closers who whiffed in saves that week would most likely get benched. Well, its thought-provoking at the very least.

I signed up using the site but it was confusing. It said the draft was on March 31st. No option for undated slow draft.

We won't do anything about payments for this league until we have a new home for the NFBC. That should be decided shortly, I hope, so keep the signups coming and we'll have those answers well before we start drafting this league. We may have to hold off a few days once the league is full before we know everything for sure, but plan on competing in this league as all of the vibes are positive right now.
