In response to the auction league. Everybody knows auctions take longer than snake drafts... The solution - Dont enter an auction if you are not prepared to invest the time.

That's very true but as someone who has participated in auctions for 16 years I believe 7-8 hours is too long. We will correct that going forward.

I guess. I am in a 12 team keeper league, with experienced auctioneers where we kept 10 players each. That is 120 players off the board and the draft still went 9:30am to 4:30pm last Sunday. Bidding on guys like Pujols etc, began at $25. It is just a time consuming process and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I think 7 hours is probably the top end as far as time goes. I wouldn't want to see an auction go longer than that. To have one go for well over 8 hours (as was the case with the Chicago/NY phone NL auction) is not something we should have, though.

8+ hours is a bit excessive. The reality of it is, you will never be able to please everyone. I know you will try but it will never happen. They will always find something to complain about, like the noise. I was in New York #1 and was pick 15, the closest seat to the bar. If anyone should have a complaint it is me. It just wasn't that bad.

Brady got us done in around... 6 hours? for the AL and NL auctions in Vegas. That person takes control of the pace and what is or is not tolerated for delays. Groom the auctioneer and we'll all be happy.

Thanks eddijag No problem...Just send me a private message on either this site or the NFFC site, and I'll let you know where to go for whatever you're looking for. In fact, once the NFFC drafts are near again, I may start a thread on the subject, so everyone can really enjoy their visit to NY and not get sucked into the money pits. To spend money on vacation is guaranteed, but to spend money and not even enjoy what you paid for, quite frankly, sucks... For now though, Good Luck in baseball.

Laptops should remain part of the game.

A laptop was especially helpful when I had no team speed after ten picks to be able to scroll down and locate the next three best stolen base guys who were good values. It would really slow me down if I had to cross players off multiple lists each time they were picked.

It was really easy to key in "ALT-Edit-Row-Hide" or "F4" when each player was picked.... or ALT-Find for those "Steve Trachsel" type picks. I always had my pick ready when it was my turn.

For those wondering, the Football auction took 4 or 4 1/2 hours for the 20 rounds. The NY Auction was great fun and I know everybody enjoyed it and the message board during the season was very active.

Personally I'm planning another trick strategy, probably taking 10 defenses so there won't be enough left to go around.

In the Vegas football auction, we had someone buy the room a case of beer and had a good time.

The auctioneer was the best I've ever dealt with...It went very smoothly...I'll be there again...I also remember you (JP) walking out of that Auction draft frustrated because it seemed everyone was bidding up on the players you wanted because you overspent early. I guess the players you "scrounged" up worked for you.
