Where Is Miggy Going In Slow Drafts?

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Feb 22, 2011 3:33 am

The most interesting player development in the last week was the DUI arrest of Miguel Cabrera, who before that situation had an ADP of 2 in NFBC Slow Drafts. Now there's concern that he has an alcohol problem again and that he may miss part of the regular season because of it.

So how did NFBC owners perceive his situation when Slow Drafts opened for business yesterday? Probably not as dire as some would suspect.

Here's where he went in the Slow Drafts:

7,6,7,9,2,7,3,4,4,9

That's an ADP of 5.8, with four picks in the Top 4 and none out of the Top 9. Pretty solid.

Now for the big question: Would you take him that high if you were drafting today? And if you did take him that high already, what do you see here that isn't scaring you?

Let's analyze this and I'll look over some more data and provide it here. Enjoy and thanks to all of the Slow Draft owners who are providing this content for us.

9!? Wow, it's a serious illness/problem but for 8 owners to pass on him is surprising.

Unless there is jail time involved (and from what I've read there won't be). I do not think his arrest will have any impact to his production at all.

Here's a couple of other interesting facts from the first round:

** Not surprising, but Albert Pujols went No. 1 in all 10 Slow Drafts. Nobody has gone No. 1 in any NFBC Slow Draft so far this year other than Pujols.

** Who is the new No. 2 now that Miggy has dropped? Here's a look at the other players who went second yesterday:

Hanley Ramirez: 6 times

Troy Tulowitzki: 2 times

Miguel Cabrera: 1 time

Carl Crawford: 1 time

** Has Adrian Gonzalez continued to be a Top 15 pick in the NFBC? Absolutely. Here's where he went yesterday:

9, 10, 11, 11, 11, 11, 10, 9, 10, 11

Thoughts?

I was hoping to get him at 12 in our draft, but he went 3rd! His upside if he gets sober for the year FAR outway his chances of completely running of the rails.

He is in a situation where a lot of people will want to help him and won't give up on him in my opinion.

We completed our first $125 NFBC Satellite League on the new software last night and from what I saw things went well. The draft results are in every owners' listings, the Roster Grid is complete for the entire league and results are there for all to enjoy. Great stuff and great job last night. Everyone was in the Draft Room on time and ready to kick off the fantasy baseball season. I think everyone will like the draft room this year, so sign up for more satellite leagues and have fun all.

By the way, Miguel Cabrera went 8th in this league. It started out Pujols, Hanley, Troy and Miggy fell to eight. If I get time today I'll start posting some draft results through the first six rounds and keep them random so that nobody knows which leagues we are posting. We now have 11 league results since Tuesday and we have another satellite league tonight. It's time to start showing you what the early rounds are looking like and whetting your appetites for some pay leagues!! :D Enjoy all.

I see that Miggy went 5th in Slow Draft 15. That one also started Albert, Hanley, Troy, Votto with Miggy following. Very, very interesting. He has definitely thrown a loop into these February Slow Drafts. It should be an interesting next couple of weeks as we learn more about Miggy's progress with this problem.

In prior years we got ADP's from those early satellite drafts. Are we going to be able to do that again?

Thanks!
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I need to check on that with STATS, but hopefully we can do that and create a new ADP soon. We have so much else on our hands now to finish between baseball and football, but hopefully we can do that. We want that data too for some of the content we're producing. Stay tuned for more details.
