Announcing First Weekend Draft Spots

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Mar 10, 2011 6:11 am

Tom and I are working through the payments now for all first weekend live events and we are hopeful that we can announce some or most of these in the next two days. We'd like to have these leagues formalized and draft picks announced on Friday or Saturday, but give us a little more time to work through some issues here.

We're getting there. We have a lot of work to do with credit cards and confirming check payments, but otherwise we're in good shape with most of this on the first weekend. We're making calls to finalize the Atlantic City auction and the remaining Main Event slots if we can fill them. Stay tuned on all, but again we are trying to get this all done so that we can have a weekend of known draft spots.

I'll update soon. Thanks all for your patience.

Thanks for the update. Understand the delay in the Main Event announcements as we try to fill the last league. Any chance we can get Double Play draft positions for the first weekend today?

Okay, we won't announce the Main Events today, but the hope is that we can announce them tomorrow. I will have an update this afternoon.

I agree that we can try to get the Double Play draft slots today and the auction championship in LV. We might be able to do the Super League, but we have two issues with the Ultimate Leagues that will prevent us from announcing anything today. Stay tuned there for more details.

Thanks all. I might be able to announce a time when these leagues will be announced online. We're just finalizing things now and I think we're making progress.

So unfortunately the 2nd weekend's draft spots won't be announced until at least the Saturday before their event, correct?

Are you guys waiting until another 5 or 6 teams signup to fill the 1st weekend to announce the draft spots?

As a 1st weekend participant, if the spots aren't announced before Saturday the 2nd weekend would get a pretty decent advantage, especially if those days are weekend days.

I think they're doing everything humanly possible to get all the loose ends tied up. An inequity between the 2 weekends, due to the circumstances this year, may be realized. Is it really much of an advantage though getting an extra 3 days knowing your draft slot? I know some teams may mock till the cows come home but I just don't see much of an advantage, if at all.

[/QUOTE]If those 2 or 3 extra days are weekends, then yes, I think it's a big advantage. Some of us work Mon-Fri and the weekends are when most/all prep work is done

Agreed

I've got a week of 12 hour days coming up. To not have the weekend to do a couple mocks could be hurtful.

I understand that we may get our draft order later this year. I just want equality between the 2 weeks.

Though it would be cool to have our draft slots and leagues announced as soon as possible, we shouldn't forget where this contest was as recently as two short months ago.

The Fanball crisis created a situation where noone signed up for weeks while we waited to see if there was even going to be an NFBC this year, created another delay in signups while the STATS website got created, Fanball data got transfered over, and the registration page got formatted, and left Greg & Tom in constant catchup mode when it came to signups.

I think the fact that Greg & Tom are slightly behind in registrations from where they need to be is quite understandable considering the circumstances. I also think we owe it to Greg & Tom for saving our game and for allowing for this contest to even take place this year to be a little patient while they do what they need to do to reach their goals.

I'm sure they're aware of the urgency, but let's cut them a little slack here.

Well put Glenn. I see the other guys points about prep time being an issue. Hopefully we can all make a few concessions considering the circumstances here.

I would be good with showing up the day of, doing the KDS live, and drafting 30 mins later after putting down a cold one. :D

As long as everyone league has roughly the same amount of time. I think most are understanding of the situation.

I am in the middle on this one leaning more towards Jupinka and Glenn.

Would it create a small advantage for one weekend to have it earlier sure.... In the overall scheme of things understanding the pressure that the NFBC team is under these last couple of days makes me say work with them.

However, at some point you have to sh!t or get off the pot on that last league ( I direct this towards fence setters). In my opinion it is time to throw some hard deadlines out there publicly. Sign up by noon tomorow or not for the first weekend.

One thing I completely disagree with though is the notion that Greg is holding this up to get 6 more people to play. He is holding this up to find 9 people leaguemates so they can enjoy next weekend too. I am highly skeptical it can be done at this point, but in my mind he deserves 24 more hours to try.

Just my opinion!

No, that's not what we're waiting for. We can announce the draft spots without that final league being filled and that might happen. Stay tuned, we're close.

We're just starting to hit credit cards now. I know you want us to announce draft picks before we get payments, but it's tough to do that. And we are just finalizing who is paying by check or credit card. This time crunch won't happen the second weekend. We'll get this done, but it's not about this final league.

I dont understand the urgency to get your draft position. Do you really spend that much time figuring out who you are going to pick in the ninth rounf a week from now? I agree, it is nice to know where you are drafting , but you can only plan so far in advance. If you are rerally planning on using mock drafts to determine how to build your team....forget about it. All it takes is one out of the ordinary pick and the whole draft will change. Does it really matter if week one gets 7 days advance notice and week two participants get 8?

I agree with bustouts. If that is what is needed for your prep. I'd like you in my league...

I don't know fellas. I do pretty extensive decision trees that change quite radically depending on my draft position. That takes time to complete but I don't feel I'm at a disadvantage because I'm really well prepared. Quite the contrary.

As noted in the NFBC newsletter that went out tonight, it is my goal to announce the first weekend Main Event leagues and draft orders tommorrow around noon and possibly both Ultimate Leagues. We haven't filled that final Main Event league and I will announce all draft picks and leagues outside of that league. We have 10 solid owners in that league and we need five more. We have some feelers out there and I feel good that we will get that league filled, but unfortunately those owners will get their draft spots a day or two later than the rest. We have to move forward.

Tom and I are working on all of this now and have to travel tonight. I'll work in the morning and provide an update as soon as I can so that you're not all just waiting for this information. But we're on pace to get this to you tomorrow and give you the weekend to prepare for your draft spots. Thanks for your patience all.

I believe I'm in that last league. I'm fine with whatever timeframe you deem necessary. Hopefully the others will be as well. Everyone knows how hard you guys are going at it right now. Thanks for the passion and keeping these games alive!!!!

As long as everyone league has roughly the same amount of time. I think most are understanding of the situation. That is exactly how I wish it was done actually. I am too lazy to try and devise any sort of "draft plan". I will drink and draft and hopefully my instincts will be up to par.
