This is a close-knit NFBC family and we don't like to see any of our fellow soldiers wounded. Fortunately, one of them is going to be okay. NFBC Charter Member Gene McCaffrey suffered a heart attack earlier this week but is recovering nicely in a Colorado hospital. Gene emailed me yesterday and said he's doing surprisingly well and still wants to draft on Saturday. I need to somehow get him a teleconference hookup so that he can compete for the eighth straight year.
Gene, you're one helluva trooper!!! We all know how much baseball means to you and we'll do all we can to make sure you remain in the Main Event. Everyone wish the best to Gene and support him in his recovery. And we'll keep you in the Main Event if you can follow your Cheat Sheets lying down!!

Get well Gene.

All the best to the top Wiseguy!
Many of us enjoying these drafts this weekend owe Gene a big thanks for educating us years ago when we first started becoming involved in the world of fantasy baseball. Along the way, Gene became much more in our eyes. Rock on Sir, get well soon as your ever loyal friends and readers have you in our thoughts.

Gene,
Get well quickly my friend, I just saw this thread in as I came to the lobby of the LaGuardia Marriott to look at details and I had my Wiseguy Baseball 2011 in my hands; surreal!
My prayers are with you and the fact that you are going to draft is a good sign.

I also don't know Gene, but wish him nothing but the best. Its often said that good brain activity and optimism lead to quick recoverys. With the start of the baseball season only 6 days away and your fantasy draft starting soon, I have no doubt your brain is hard at work and your optimism for the new year is also running high!
Get well soon!

I know Gene doesn't read the boards most of the time.
But if one of the DC guys could pass along me and my families thoughts and prayers to Gene.
Thanks

Gene,
Get well soon, buddy. I wanted to congratulate you in person on last season's Main Event championship in our LV league but will have to settle for an electronic salute.
See you in Vegas next year.

I wanted everyone to know that Gene is home and feeling better. He's ready for the marathon that is ahead this baseball season. In fact, he drafted via phone on Saturday in that very tough Las Vegas League 4 and seemed to have a blast. I'm so happy that we were able to keep Gene in the league and keep him as part of that great competition.
Gene told me that he's feeling very good and is surprised by how well he feels. I think we made him feel a little better when we put him on speaker phone before the start of the draft and had everyone show their support for him with a big round of applause. Gene, I hope you felt the love in that room on Saturday morning. There's a lot of folks pulling for you. Keep getting better and keep the heart strong.
Good luck Mr. Wiseguy!!!
