Fantasy Sports Insurance: Eligible Players

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Mar 29, 2011 3:29 am

I apologize for not posting this before the weekend's drafts. This was on me as Henry did send me the list before the weekend and I just missed this in my email. But here is the list of eligible players that you can claim insurance on if you paid by check for either the Main Event or the Auction Championship. You can also buy insurance privately on any of these players if you'd like. I'll provide details on how you can claim your player before Opening Day and what the cost is if you'd like to do this on your own for any of your NFBC teams shortly. Thanks all for your patience:

Fantasy Sports Insurance: Eligible Players

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Mar 29, 2011 3:30 am

Please note that Chase Utley was removed from the list once he landed on the DL. Any player who starts the season on the DL can't be insured and thus Utley was removed from the list earlier this week once he went on the DL. Good luck all.

Okay, here's how this is going to work:

For anyone who paid for their Main Event or Auction Championship via check, I will buy you free insurance on one player. The list of available players to be insured is listed above. All you have to do is email me the player you want if you paid by check and I will send this to Fantasy Sports Insurance to get your policy started. They will email you a certificate of insurance for verification. It's as easy as that (well, easy for you and now I get hundreds of more emails!! :D ).

Here's the breakdown:

For a Main Event team, if your player lands on the DL for 60 days or longer this season (combined, not just at once) you will receive $280. The policy pays 20% of your entry fee.

For the Auction Championship: We will pay $170 to any team that paid by check and who designates a player that lands on the DL for 60 days or more this season.

If you want to buy insurance on any player for any of your NFBC teams, go to:

www.fantasysportsinsurance.com

You can also email Henry at [email protected]

Thanks all and let the emails begin.

Two other things:

You can buy your own insurance and increase the rate of payback by increasing the percentage you pay for that insurance. Talk with Henry about that.

Also, the insurance offer won't end on Thursday with the start of games. Henry said that he realizes we got off to a late start with this announcement and thus he will offer this into April for anyone who wants to insure a player. This is a long season and thus he's fine with taking insurance even into the season. Good luck all and contact Henry if you need any more information on this.

Last year several NFBC owners received checks from Fantasy Sports Insurance in a timely fashion. It's a nice free add-on from us for those paying via check and a good thing for anyone who wants to buy additional insurance on certain players. Enjoy.

Just a heads up, Jason Bay wasn't on the original list and he's not eligible to be insured. Just wanted to point that out.

Thanks. I'll let you know shortly. That list is being updated before Opening Day with those like Bailey who are starting the year on the DL. Thanks.

Thanks. Two players who no longer can be insured are Andrew Bailey and Brian Wilson. Both went on the DL yesterday. Please pick someone else if you haven't already requested these players.

Just to clarify, if we picked them earlier this week, we do not need to pick again. Correct?

If you paid by check for your Main Event or Auction Championship team and haven't claimed your player yet, please email me at [email protected]. I'm sending the list of players to Fantasy Sports Insurance later today and need to have this complete today. Thanks all.

More than 100 players took advantage of this free insurance, thus saving us credit card costs while still giving you folks some free insurance on your players. Good luck all and let's hope nobody gets a player on the DL for 60 or more days.

do i have automatic coverage through my CC? credit cards have fees to the merchant, probably in the 3-5% range. Even assuming it's 3%, that's $45 or whatever for a main event team. Checks, assuming they don't bounce, only have a fee of Greg carrying the stack of checks to the bank. An insurance policy of the type they are offering to players costs roughly $20-$30 (not including any volume discounts they might be able to negotiate with the insurance provider), I believe, so it's cheaper to pay for insurance for a player than take the credit card fees hit.

Whether you have fantasy player insurance through your credit card is between you and the bank, but I seriously doubt that is in your fine print.

Down goes Hamilton again! This is why I took insurance on him. Only need a few more weeks to cash in.
